Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, if that's what it takes...
Pence is a piece of work, that's for sure.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"@PurpleEyedGuma: Pence has already been dictating a lot from his seat as Vice President. Four more years of Trump or Pence will kill millions of Americans, whether it be via corona, concentration camps, destroying health care, banning abortion, and condoning police brutality and white supremacist terrorism - to say nothing of the impact on the environment, our infrastructure, foreign policy, and everything else.
I really can't overstate how important it is for Trump to lose this election.
It's been fun. There's something that I want to get off my chest about this whole situation.
Throughout the entire reign of Trumpism, Democrats keep being pinned down by this idea that we need to "take the high road", "stay civil", "be the bigger person". Not only must we demonstrate moral and ethical superiority in our actions, we aren't allowed to openly express our rage, pain, fear, and so on lest we be labeled "no better than" the other side.
There is so much pent up emotion in this country's left that we see it emerge frequently in self-destructive ways: depression, anxiety, infighting, this stupid "progressive vs. centrist" thing.
I'm tired of being told we aren't allowed to show exactly how we feel about what's happening in our country. Donald Trump deserves this, and anyone who follows his lead and contracts the virus deserves it. I still refuse to actively wish him ill, but I'm not, under any circumstances, going to pretend to be sad just because some fence-sitter patronizingly declares that it's "bad optics".
Okay, rant over. Whew.

"Enshittification truly is how platforms die"-Cory DoctorowFighteer, just to be absolutely clear, I am not saying Trump does not deserve this, or that your emotions about it are not valid. He can drop dead the day after the inauguration for all I care, but not a day earlier, because what America needs right now is for Trump to be voted out of office and be defeated, unquestioningly, without any possibility of a "what if he had survived?".
My concern is not for Trump, my concern is for you people and your country. Please don't forget that.

At this point I'll take what I can get, the optics be damned. I appreciate the thought, however.

I don't want to sound bad. But at times it just kinda feel we wish him I'll, just try to pretend it isn't because it is socially a bad thing.
But maybe that is just me.

You aren't wrong, but our civility rules absolutely prohibit saying it out loud. I'm not going to break those just for catharsis.

I agree with that, and I do my best to avoid it, even with bad people. Wishing terrible things on people can poison your own mind and make you more okay with terrible things happening to people who may not deserve it, just because you think they are guilty. We see this way too much with people condemning the accused before they even had a trial and a chance to be proven innocent.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesThe debates are meaningless circus, really. A show for the illiterate.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

It's a strange world after all.
