Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Trump claiming it's no worse than the flu isn't going to change the situation on the ground. He's already spent the past ten months downplaying it and pretending it's no big deal; him getting it and walking away isn't going to bring back 210,000 dead Americans.
If his base doesn't see that, then they're already not looking.
It's been fun.He goes Asymptomatic and in 2-3 Weeks he hits the campaign trail full steam, saying it wasn’t bad at all and that everyone was just full of hot air and such.
All the gloating just blows up in everyone’s faces.

Is this in any doubt? Covid-19 has killed more Amercians then all the wars it has been in save WWII PUT TOGETHER.
And is killing them at a faster rate then WWII did, the only reason WWII still wins out is that it lasted 3 years longer, but covid will overtake it on its anniversary if it doesn't slow.
They are already not looking, but if Trump gets it and survives, it emboldens there claims, emboldens doesn't mean that it has any grounding in reality.
Sure, but my point is that they're already not wearing masks and shouting in grocery stores and so on. Them thinking "ooh, the President got it and he said it wasn't bad" isn't going to change a damn thing about how they act, nor will it protect them if they get sick themselves.
Their safety standards can hardly get worse, is my point.
It's been fun.Actually, I want Trump to survive this. First of all, it would at least teach him a hard lesson. And second of all, the last thing the US needs right now is another election crisis on top of the one it already has by the incumbent dying.
Never mind the pandemonium if both candidates died.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesAs said before he is a fat old fuck who's body is clearly decrepit by his inability to properly walk down stairs or drink a glass of water with one hand who has been literally inviting the virus to infect him with all those rallies.
He very obviously doesn't give a fuck about his health and won't start doing so now. Devil's luck gotta run out one of these days.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Nitpick, but the American Civil War killed about 650,000 Americans soldiers (also there were over 130,000 more civilians killed in the ACW, more than half of whom were slaves), nearly as many as every other American war combined. There's also more than 210,000 American deaths between America's other wars. Even limiting it to strictly combat deaths, COVID is still a few thousand behind the American Civil War (though it will probably surpass that in 10-14 days).
However, it's absolutely correct if you meant that it's killed more Americans than every war the US has been in since WWII put together. In fact, it's killed about twice that many.

"Clearly this will teach him to care about Covid!"
