The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

What a pagetopper.

Shifting topics for a moment, I can't begin to imagine what would happen of Trump tested positive for COVID.

1. Best medical care money can buy.

2. He'd survive, because pricks live forever.

3. He'd learn nothing.

[up] Alternatively, he refuses to stay quarantined, holds a massive rally and infects a ton of his supporters because he's a bloody moron.

Wouldn't his staff hold him back? Hopefully?

Wouldn't his staff hold him back? Hopefully?

Remember, the Secret Service apparently lied to him to get to the bunker during the riots. It wasn't that Trump lied about his reasons for an inspection. Apparently the Secret Service told him that to get him to go...like a f***ing toddler.

On the other hand, he has openly violated state level gathering restrictions, because damn overloaded local hospitals.

If he gets it, he will probably survive. If he has lasting effects of Covid though, which is likely at that age, though will probably force even him to resign. Which would be a good out and Pence can pardon him, potentially even for IRS issues.

According to his official Twitter account, Trump and Melania have tested positive for COVID. Link

Hopefully Biden was distanced enough on Tuesday.

I will refrain from further comment out of respect for forum rules.

It's better if Trump doesn't come down with severe symptoms. This election is a mess and a half already.

If he does, it would perhaps save lives to people who still insist its a cold.

Did Biden wear a mask during the debate?

If Trump comes down with severe Covid symptoms, his base will likely deny that it's Covid and insist that the deep state is trying to poison him.

[up]Trump's base would call "deep state assassination" if he stubbed his toe. Nothing we can do about that.

[up][up]He wore one on route I believe, but not during the debate proper. He was 12 feet away from Trump, but on the other hand it was an enclosed space...

I assume that Biden is being screened as we speak.

[up][up][up] No, he didn't. I don't know if they were socially distanced, though, because of the split screen.

Not the October Surprise I was expecting.

[up][up][up]They looked about eight feet apart from the wide shots. Biden's probably fine, though probably getting tested as we speak.

12 feet away, in an enclosed space, but that enclosed space is also a large open room, and then we add on the question of everyone present having tested negative before the debate. So, of course, we need to wait for testing results.

So the orange clown finally got it.

Well that makes sense considering he actively shuns wearing a mask & constantly has all those indoor rallies.

He better hope his poor health doesn't finally screw him over. He's an old obese man who has trouble walking down stairs & drinking water. He is in no state to shun safety.

I will keep my opinions to myself on what I feel about this awful-awful man getting it around the time he and his goons have been trying to destroy America's democracy.
