Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Moving this edit to its own post because it got page wraped.
TBH I am actually wondering something now, both posters that say Trump did well have admitted to listening to Audio only....
I am starting to wonder if Bidens and Trumps visuals and body languages are what really sells it, with the fact Biden is just grinning ear to ear while Trump dances around like a fool.
Like Bidens body language is what says the most in most of the "easy shots" that he misses where he just puts off a massive vibe of "can you believe this shit" to Trump.

That reminds me of the 1960 Debate between Kennedy and Nixon. From what I heard and read, people who only listened to the Debate on Radio said Nixon won it, while most people, who watched the first ever televised debate, seeing a sickly looking Nixon and young, healthy Kennedy, said Kennedy won it.
It's interesting how much seeing something can drastically alter our perception of what we hear.
Considering I've Trumpets accuse the guy of being biased or "Hillary in a wig", he likely wasn't far-right enough for Trump's and his fans' taste.

We learn from history that we do not learn from history@M84 I'm not giving him points, obviously, but it does result in Trump looking like he has the upper hand, which is unfortunate. Which is why I felt Biden should have pushed back harder.
Biden just ended up looking rather toothless here. He needs to bare his teeth and bite back, not just scoff.
@ Imca, I agree on that point, I can't really see body language, so I was effectively going on audio as well, and Trump did seem to have the upper hand in that regard. I suppose Biden looked stronger when taking his visual reactions into account, though I don't think that is enough either.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesI guess if one mistakes assholery for strength, than it's easy to think that Trump "dominated".
Well, that's a mental image I could have lived the rest of my life without seeing.

Disgusted, but not surprisedTrump tried to insult Biden by saying he went to a state school. This is the working class whisperer? His attacks were shit, even if he was screaming while making them
Actually, the wolf analogy is apt. Since 'Alpha' wolves don't really exist and neither did Trump's supposed domination

Trump Twitter is calling for Wallace's job again.
While his moderation wasn't great, I have to wonder if anyone with the same level of authority could have done better.
Can't cut mics unless the Trunp campaign agrees to it.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.[Redacting personal commentary - Septimus Heap ]
I also do want to call attention to the fact that although Chris Wallace is a pretty good journalist by Fox standards and did push back on Trump (YMMV how much that is down to nonpartisanship versus because of Trump being a huge asshole), but there was a definitely right-wing slant to some of the questions.
Most clearly, Wallace basically asked Biden why he hasn't told Democratic officials to crush protests - a question which both buys into Republican rhetoric about anti-fa and which treats violent repression as the sensible policy.
Also, while I think it is a bit less egregious since a version of the question also came up at the Biden town hall, but Wallace mischaracterized a comment by Kamala Harris on being skeptical of any vaccine promoted by Trump
.
There's also kind of the little things in terms of Wallace being cowed into giving Trump more time and at one point telling him that he would be pleased by the next question.

Yes, they are.
Wallace saying Trump would be pleased by the question was basically because Trump was already going into that question before it was asked. I don't think there was anything partisan about that.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesWhat? What kind of political debate is that? If somebody can't abide by the rules, you cut off their mic until it's their turn to speak or they learned how to behave.

We learn from history that we do not learn from history

Let me be absolutely clear once again. You should not vote for Trump. I will NEVER support Trump. Let there be no doubt that I will never imply such, nor that you should vote for Trump or not vote for Biden. You will not see any wink wink nudge nudge shit from me, and any such suggestions are unfortunately mistaken. I don't do that sort of thing. Frankly I'm terrible at it. So no, I am not stealth supporting Trump, and I would rather not have to drill that into anyone's heads every time I criticize Biden.
