The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Trump ends the debate with conspiracy theories. He’s making it clear that he will contest the results and cheat his way back to president.

Trump's going all in on calling the election rigged.

"A republican representative in a safe seat just called Trump an asshole? [lol]"

I'm pretty sure most people who have to deal with Trump hate him. He's just an utter, useless prick who goes out of his way to be offensive to people he needs.

But unfortunately, Trump's also the platonic ideal of the modern Republican Party values. It's the party of racist, incurious bullies, and Trump is racist, incurious, and enjoys hurting people.

The House passed a non-binding resolution affirming support for a peaceful transition of power, 397-5. The five dissenters (all Republicans) will not surprise you: Steve King (IA-4), Thomas Massie (KY-4), Clay Higgins (LA-3), Louie Gohmert (TX-1), Matt Gaetz (FL-1).

I don't want to sound like that I am doomsaying here, but what would even happen if Biden gets elected and Trump rejects the results?

But Trump's name is on the ballot because the ballot prints both names on them, Biden's name was on the ballots too.

Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.

Biden enters the White House and Trump whines like a baby.

Also more terrorism.

Well that was horrible, but I feel the general take is going to be that Biden did okay, and actually tried to talk about the issues. Wallace had no control over Trump who flailed about slinging lies and insults because he can't do anything else.

The other debates need to include a mute button.

Trump finally gets the highest viewer numbers in human history. As he's forcefully marched out of the building and, hopefully, made to stand trial for sedition.

That was a clusterfuck.

Still, I think Biden held himself well and he showed that he's unwilling to rule out making the Senate+Supreme Court fairer. And that matters.

I'm quite happy smile

And Biden now seeing firsthand how Trump "debates", he'll know how to counter in the 2nd and 3rd nights.

Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.

I'm pretty sure Biden expected it to be bad, but not necessarily that bad.

It's like trying to debate an angry toddler, except a toddler might be more inclined to actually listen when a grown-up tells him to behave.

They need a red light and a buzzer to shut that orange broken record off whenever he is lying. (Which was all the time.)

That said, listening to Trump doing nothing but nonstop lying during the entire thing was not good for my heart or blood-pressure. (Raging mad at the end, to say the least.)

He had nothing but hatred, deflection and lies to spew, and that was infuriating to watch.

He really lives up to his slogan "I take NO responsibility at all!" at least.

[up][up][up] It was a clownfest except that would be insulting to clowns.

[up] Yeah Trump tried his best to not let Biden get a word in edgewise.

Oh yeah, and all the buzzwords (?) came up. Hilary, Burisma, crime, antifa, you name it.

I kind of did. I completely expected Trump to be a flailing incoherent bullying jackass who would get personal by bringing up Biden's family.

I'm just surprised Trump didn't also try to mock Biden's stutter by fake-stuttering.

Disgusted, but not surprised
