Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

That's mainly because we already had a big revelation about his tax evasion schemes several years ago, but that was on his practices several decades ago, while this time it is about his current presidency.
The newsworthy bit is really about in how much financial trouble Trump is right now, and how that might affect his current presidency and upcoming election.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesWith that in mind, it seems significant that they're not using qualifiers.
Technically nobody is saying he's tax dodging. They're just pointing out that he didn't pay loads of taxes and that he's in loads of debt. Then they raise the possibility that he was cheating on his reporting or he might legit be so bad at running his businesses that they went under and could use those to write off his taxes.
Neither of these are good for him. 538 pointed out that he does see a decrease in approval when pollsters show voters his actual business track record.
I believe the continued support of Donald Trump is:
1. One part Sunk Cost Fallacy. They put themselves behind him and refuse to reveal weakness.
2. One part racism and greed. Donald Trump supports the evils they support.
3. The fact they're criminals who hate everything the Democrats stand for.
Bipartisanship is a joke to them because they loathe the idea if not being dictators. We see it as early as Clinton.

Well, they haven’t literally broken the law necessarily, or at least not all of them, but the fates they wish to inflict on minorities, etc. definitely are outside the law.
And you can call them criminals, but don't make sweeping statements like "Republicans are mostly or partly criminals".
Democrats can be criminals too, but we would not tolerate equally sweeping statements about Democrats being criminals.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesAs it stands currently Trump has to sweep all the toss-up states and win some democrat leaning states. He needs to win both Ohio and Florida, while Biden can actually win without either.

showing Biden ahead in Pennsylvania amongst likely voters, by a whopping 9%.

On a Fox News interview, Eric Trump seems to have come out as gay while trying to say his father has LGBT supporters.
