Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

From the developing WTFJHT feed:
Nancy Pelosi called for an immediate investigation into allegations of “high rates of hysterectomies done to immigrant women” held inside an ICE detention facility in Georgia. A whistleblower complaint details what is described as “jarring medical neglect” at the Irwin County Detention Center. In a statement, Pelosi called on the Department of Homeland Security to “immediately investigate” the allegations in the complaint and said Americans “need to know why and under what conditions so many women, reportedly without their informed consent, were pushed to undergo this extremely invasive and life-altering procedure.” The complaint also alleges that the ICE facility refused to test detainees who had been exposed to the coronavirus or those who showed symptoms of COVID-19. Trump and Fox News live in a classic abuser-victim relationship, with Trump beating it for failing to lick his boots the regulation number of times and the network flirting with leaving him before crawling back in supplication to get abused some more because he provides it with validation for its existence (and boosts its ratings).

I did write it as clickbait because I didn't fully read it at first, but the article shows pictures of the guy's now private Facebook showing him having made posts declaring the 17 year old Kenoshian shooting as a hero, said welfare destroys black families, and supported taking welfare away from rioters.

Are you sure Trump is the abuser in that scenario? The man craves their attention just as much as Fox craves their ratings.
And Fox is the gate to his base, after all. When Republicans exclusively watch Fox, Trump doesn't exactly have much of a choice, either.

Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesThe Hill:
GOP votes to authorize subpoenas, depositions in Obama-era probe
Republicans on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted on Wednesday to greenlight subpoenas and depositions as part of an investigation into the FBI's Russia probe and the Obama administration.
The 8-6 vote along party lines authorizes Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), the chairman of the committee, to issue a combination of subpoenas and set up closed-door depositions with approximately 40 individuals.
The vote comes less than two months before the November elections, injecting fresh acrimony into the Wednesday committee meeting where Johnson accused Democrats of a "coordinated smear" against his probes. Sen. Gary Peters (Mich.), the top Democrat on the panel, accused Republicans of a "partisan fishing expedition."
He tends to slide under the radar compared to the likes of McConnell or Graham, but good god Sen. Johnson is awful. He's been relentlessly beating this drum for months.
Fox News is kind of fascinating as a group with no standards being surprised at having difficulty sinking to the level of Trump. I think it may be the fact that it was founded by Evil Genius oligarchs of the kind that Trump pretends to be. It's hard to lick the boots of someone you are far superior to in both skill, wealth, and manipulation.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Undercover Brother and The Hebrew Hammer both utilize "racist" humor without actually being racist, largely due to how the joke plays out.
Brother has Chris Kattan pulling Jive Turkey throughout the film (much to his own racist horror), and Hammer has one scene in which a white accountant for the Kwanzaa Liberation Front is stunned after hearing Mordecai use the N word and Rahiam using the K word - and both explicitly cite N-Word Privileges for why they can.
Beyond that, the primary thing with whether such edgy humor works is whether it's punching up or down, to quote someone else's analogy.
Pretty sure that'd fall under Acceptable Targets, what with cultism and serial killers.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Makes me think of The Last Podcast on the Left. They aren't afraid to go blue or politically incorrect in their humor and, while I don't believe they're racist, can enter that territory.
Marcus Parks: You made it thirteen minutes.
Henry: God damn it!
In the final post he jokes that he Wants a Prize for Basic Decency over how racist he hasn't, then gradually proves himself undeserving of such a prize.
In that series and their series on the person himself, he also went full on Ranguage in his impression of serial killer Charles Ng. The difference there is that, assuming they're accurate, Ng actually spoke like that.
In reference to
, not sure if that's punching up or down, since the primary objective is mocking serial killers and cult leaders.

Keep in mind that Fox has never done better business than under Trump. There's no abuse relation there: It sells like hell, and Fox dictates half of trump's agenda. Last year alone, Trump livetweeted Fox over 600 times alone. (Livetweating meaning, tweet within an hour at most of a talking point on Fox)
