Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I guess a bunch of us could all get together and surrender ourselves to the Hague.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Oh, no. We're going to orchestrate a mass surrender to international war crimes tribunals. It's the only way.
Seriously, what is the suggestion? Unless the international community is willing to declare war on the United States, it's the election or bust. The only way these people might be held accountable — even the remotest possibility of it — is for Biden to win office. Then, if we want, we can dunk on his government for failing to prosecute them. We can go all in on it.
Until then...

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"No sure where you’re getting the supposed anti-Biden sentiment from....
It’s entirely reasonable for people to talk about things they’d like to see in the future without getting their heads bitten off.

You know, people are allowed to want things to happen that aren't necessarily going to. If people are expressing the desire that brownshirts and jackboots actually have to face justice, why be snotty about it?
Edit:
Double Edit: Literally what part of any of this had to do with the election? We're allowed to express anger or horror without immediately looping it back into the election.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerWhat actually stops a state from making such actions a state crime? Or from ordering ICE agents out fo their state, or even criminalising cooperation with ICE?
I’m shelving my actual dream idea of the California national guard rolling into such camps and liberating them by force, as that’s obviously not something the state government is willing to do.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranBecause federal level agents overwrite state level agents, there is not a thing they can do about them.
Its actualy a problem law enforcment has with the military, is that if the military commits a crime they have to let the MP's handle it since there is nothing they can do.... A federal agent could shoot a dude in front of a state agent, and the state agent just has to wait for the relevant other federal agent to take care of it.

That still leaves open the option of making it a criminal offence to provide any kind of aid to said agents, as then you’d be arresting state citizens instead of federal agents.
That and there’s always the option of criminalising now so that once a federal government that won’t block prosecution is in power you can prosecute.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThe federal government isn't just complacent; it is actively conducting and abetting these operations. If state governments start detaining or obstructing federal officials, you can bet Trump will try to declare martial law. Of course, he's backed down in those confrontations before, so definitely harangue your state leaders to see if they'll act.
I live in Pennsylvania, though, so getting Tom Wolf on board won't do jack squat about stuff going on in Texas and New Mexico.
We must maintain our public outrage, but getting Republicans out of office is the only way to actually stop this stuff.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"There are now stories about mass sterializations at ICE facilities.

9th Circuit Court of Appeals rules that Trump admin. can end humanitarian protections for some 300,000 immigrants from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Haiti and Sudan.
While an appeal is imminent and orders to leave wouldn't take effect for months, the decision moved many people closer to losing legal status, including families who have been in the U.S. for decades and have young children who are American citizens.

Uh,yeah,preach it.
