Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

This is an excellent point, beyond Trump setting the bar as low as possible Biden also has the advantage of not having to deal with the gendered assumptions that others would throw Clinton's way.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI'm not sure where the fear for debates comes from. Trump can't give a straight answer to the most softball of questions from reporters. "What would you do in a second term?" got some incoherent rambling in stead of even the most generic, predictable answer of "make america even greater".
Trump does well when he's the only one talking and the crowd likes him. Force him to think and you just get a stream-of-consciousness mess where the consciousness part is equal parts mud and manure.

About the polling: This always happens when we get closer to the election. Poll leads shrink. It's not surprising. The fact that they're not shrinking as much is actual news, though.
About the debates: It will depend on how the debate will run. If the moderators actually adhere by the time limit and cut people off when it hits, Biden'll be fine. If they let Trump trample all over them (which is a possibility), then that will be bad.
About Trump being a problem solver: The worst part is that he doesn't even have to be a problem solver, really. All he had to do is shut up and let the pandemic team do their jobs, and he can't even do that. He has to be involved in/profit off of every single thing, or else he gets mad.

I would argue that the main concern with this is that the debates are supposed to try to convince people who are undecided. And at this point, if you are undecided between a literally neonazi avowed candidate and Biden, these undecided voters are particularly easy to sway and prone to misinformation, if not genuinely idiots.
There is not a single reason to vote for Trump yet it is an option these people are considering.
However as others pointed out, Biden has the massive advantage that he is not Hillary Clinton, and he does not have the baggage of decades of conspiracy theories badgering him. He is also not a woman (sadly, an electoral advantage), and I would also dare say that the divisions Trump sows may work against him.
BLM has plenty of support, and he keeps demonizing them. The only way BLM loses support is if they begin to crucify cops: and at this point its more likely someone crucifies a BLM rioter, scrawls "TRUMP" across their chest with their still-warm blood and then devolves into a hyper-racist modern rendition of "Dixie" under the Kekistan flag.
Frankly at this point Trump's best hope, is to inflame his supporters to commit more and more heinous crimes, shrug when asked to condemn them, and exagerate any BLM response (which will obviously be violent) since the Media will be all too happy to join in on showcasing the violence of the movement.
I want to say, given how some elections have gone across the world in these situations that it seems more likely Trump loses in a historical landslide, or wins by cheating again (with some exceptions such as the election of Bolsonaro), but frankly oft times the situations across borders are often dissimilar in several ways.
Addendum: Frankly, at this point, it feels a bit like that video where the cook Jamie Oliver shows children how chicken nuggets are made, where he grinds the least desirable parts of a chicken into a disgusting pink paste he then breads and fries unceremoniously. he then asks if anyone would still eat them. All the children raise their hands and he just looks so lost.

It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothesSo a complaint about how different search engines first results bring up mob

I’m fucking howling
It’s incredible to see the replies being either lol or unironically agreeing with ‘Yes those dastardly libtards’
Complaining how Google is censoring information because a search for "Mob" in image search brings up Mob Psycho 100.

Does Eric know that Google adjusts its results based on your browsing habits?
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Oh, there was one result that wasn't a MP 100 screencap though - a photo of Trump from an article talking about his links to organised crime.
"Yup. That tasted purple."

Remember Hillary was handicapped in debates since she couldn't afford to come across as 'mean' or 'shrill' Biden doesn't have that, he'll have no trouble smacking Trump down with a firm tone.
Earlier this year there MIGHT have been a worry but with COVID still around and the economy in shambles along with Trump getting more unhinged and incoherent with every speech, unless the Debate is SUPER Structured and Trump can be heavily prepped and coached it will not end well for Trump. He's always been weak in 'thinking on his feet' when it comes to answering questions and this has not improved.
Expect Trump's team to do everything in its power to try and structure the debate and try to get pre-approved/screened questions in only.
