Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

No, it didn't have anything to do with that. It was because of the national environment post-Reagan, rightism was on the rise, and the course the Democrats chose was to capitulate to it by embracing neoliberal economics. It wasn't because of any flaw of FDR's.

So it seems like more people think that Trump will make them less safe/increase violence and Biden more/decrease violence.
That is not good for Trump considering that his primary argument for re-election is Law and Order.
Can't say I'm surprised, running a campaign as if one is challenging an incumbent when one is the incumbent is never a good idea.
Well, I can’t say I’m surprised that my history books emphasized things like that.
Certainly, and it's not like FDR hasn't been criticized. Just that his sins, perceived or otherwise, didn't play any real role in the Democratic Party's adoption of neoliberalism. It was 100% a response to a national environment friendly to the Right.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji Yang
Because the damned dirty democrats won't let him, of course!
And in other antagonistic news, the US will not be involved in a WHO-led COVID-19 vaccine effort
, because Trump is a petulant manbaby with the understanding of a toddler and the lack of willingness to learn and/or admit mistakes as Uncle Otis (see the Literature section).
I wouldn't say perhaps, pretending that one isn't President isn't a good way to run a campaign.
But yes, that is the only way he can run. Because he's a disaster of a President.

Otherwise, this “strategy” of Trump would fit right in: Generate hate so you can run on protecting from hate, only when you’re already in position to protect from hate and you fail to do so, it backfires.

That's the highest they've ever raised.

The shitty part, though, is that a large section of the US populace is genuinely convinced of Trump's assertion.
For comparison, the article mentions that it was just $140 million in July, and Trump/the RNC raised $160 million then - should be interesting to see what their figures for August are.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Sorry to rehash some shit from a few pages back, but regarding Trump saying that Sarah Huckabee Sanders should "take one for the team" after Kim Jong Un winked at her: as if my stomach wasn't having enough problems today. No wonder she finally left the damned administration.
Some Trumpheads think that the Trumps could be a political dynasty like the Kennedys. Of course, if anything, the Trumps are the anti-Kennedys.
Do not obey in advance.Sorry to rehash some shit from a few pages back, but regarding Trump saying that Sarah Huckabee Sanders should "take one for the team" after Kim Jong Un winked at her: as if my stomach wasn't having enough problems today. No wonder she finally left the damned administration.
Agreed, it's sickening. She's a terrible person but no one deserves to deal with that shit.
It's just another example of Trump's misogynistic view of women.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangWell this is somewhat surprising - Iowa officially has the highest COVID-19 infection rate in the US right now
- apparently they (like I, admittedly) assumed that their lower population density would prevent effective transmission.
I'm surprised. I would have thought it would be Florida or Texas. Or possibly New York, since I believe New York City has or had a disproportionate number of deaths.

Makes sense, sadly. The three-plus-a-fraction terms alone were some serious ammo for the propaganda against him.
