Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah, Trump's "mini-strokes" tweet was definitely a Suspiciously Specific Denial, as noted on The Hill
, because: "The president's denial raised eyebrows, as the book from New York Times correspondent Michael Schmidt did not specifically state that Trump had suffered from a series of small strokes... Schmidt reported in his new book that Pence was told to be on standby to assume presidential powers last November in the event the president had to be anesthetized during a previously unscheduled visit to Walter Reed Medical Center."
Well here's an odd one - 52 black franchisees of McDonalds (read: owners of a few of the stores) are filing a racial discrimination suit against the fast-food giant
, claiming that they were directed to high-cost, low-profit stores in (in my estimation) a complicated version of redlining.
Location is key for a fast-food restaurant, and African-American franchisees have long spoken out about higher costs associated with security and insurance as well as upkeep of stores sold to them in poor condition. A report by Business Insider in December showed a ballooning gap between the average cash flow of Black franchisees versus others in the Mc Donald's system.
"Mc Donald's knew or should have known that these differential revenue and operating costs of Black-operated franchises as compared to White-operated franchises are not random or due to poor management," the lawsuit said. "These differences are statistically significant and are the result of the historical racial bias and barriers built into the Mc Donald's franchise system."
Mc Donald's rejected the allegations, saying they "fly in the face of everything we stand for as an organization."
"Not only do we categorically deny the allegations that these franchisees were unable to succeed because of any form of discrimination by Mc Donald's," the company said in Tuesday's statement, "we are confident that the facts will show how committed we are to the diversity and equal opportunity of the Mc Donald's System, including across our franchisees, suppliers and employees."

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Well, Biden's reputation as a moderate centrist is so deeply ingrained that Republicans probably thought they couldn't break it. Besides, it's the party of QAnon now, they are predisposed towards seeing conspiracies and (wo)men behind curtains.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe BBC just did a segment on that conspiracy theory that Biden is a paedophile because he owned the island next to Epstein's island. The BBC did state that it's a QAnon conspiracy, and debunk it as a false story. The segment was about disinformation in the US election.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading. And considering what the right is especially at their worst, I would not mind a takeover by the left.
Like I'm fucking Cuban. Why would I vote for the organization that thinks so lowly of me that they consolidate my ethnicity with a bunch of other unrelated ones?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Going to try to step away from this thread for a bit and/or make sure to be civil if I post. Apologies again.
But I think that mailer kind of relates to the interview I linked to. It's more explicit in the interview than in the mailer, but it makes more sense if you understand "Biden is controlled by the far-left" as an antisemitic conspiracy theory. Ditto Qanon.
Beside that aspect, I think it's basically an attempt to address the contradictions between "Biden has dementia", "Biden is an out-of-touch racist", and "Biden is anti-fa". The "solution" is that Biden is an incompetent puppet of the far left.
Edit - Kind of funny in a sick way that in between my posting, there is a post about attempts to connect Biden to the Qanon conspiracy theory.

Locked kids in cages on the border, wasted millions on a wall that's somehow less effective than what was there before, abandoned the US' Kurd allies to be genocided by Turkey, nearly did the same with South Korea, moved the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem therefore giving the illegal occupation of the territory legitimacy, pushed back decades worth of GSM rights, blocked legal immegrants from entering the country more than once, am I forgetting anything?
Like shit my parents brought me here to get away the rat hole that is Cuba because its under a dictatorship. Why would I vote for another Castro?
Really what annoys me is that my Republican uncle and apparently a lot of Cubans support Trump despite him being exactly what makes Cuba so awful.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie.""Really what annoys me is that my Republican uncle and apparently a lot of Cubans support Trump despite him being exactly what makes Cuba so awful."
I'm reminded of the moment I realized what was different about me and my uncle when we denounced mass murdering Communist dictators. I didn't like them because they were mass murdering dictators, he didn't like them because they were Communist.

Maybe you should take a little break from the news, then. Go do something to put your mind off things a bit.
