Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

North Jersey: NJ approves three bills to support November vote-by-mail General Election
Gov. Phil Murphy signed into law a trio of bills on Friday to support New Jersey's primarily vote-by-mail General Election in November.
The series of bills set a number of requirements for the upcoming election including mandates for county ballot drop boxes, curable ballots if election officials find problems and increased public awareness of voting by mail.

We're old enough to complain about those darn kids ourselves.

We learn from history that we do not learn from history
Weird, my experience with zoomers for the most part was that they might be even more progressive than millenials - well, except the Groypers, but nobody talks about those cockwombles if they can avoid it.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyYour experience is the reality, as backed up by polling and voting patterns. I think that what M84 is talking about is the baseless complaining from some millennials, which mirrors what millennials were themselves subject to.

Granted, the previous generations do sometimes deserve the complaints.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyMore or less. Turns out some of us are Not So Different from our elders.
Disgusted, but not surprisedBill Maher is every Right Wing caricature of a pot-smoking, condescending, hedonistic, narcissistic, two-faced coastal liberal elite rolled up in a painfully out of date joke and brought to life. His identification as a leftist is based pretty much entirely on liking drugs and hating religion.
The man is an absolute embarrassment to the Left.
As for third parties, while they do periodically rise to take the place of a main party, they don't do it out of nowhere. Third parties succeed main parties when main parties fade into electoral irrelevance, and neither the Democrats or, sadly, the Republicans are currently anywhere close to that point. This year's election could potentially be the breaking point for whichever party loses depending on a number of other factors (Trump losing could throw the Republicans into downticket chaos as Senators and Reps find themselves between a rock and a hard place with Trump's cult and more moderate voters, while a Biden loss could see the Democrats tear themselves apart as younger and angrier voters become disillusioned with a one-two punch of failed quote-unquote "moderates" in Clinton and Biden), but it's absolutely not in play for any third parties to snatch any significant power right now.
And no, no third party is being "more effective" than the Democrats right now, because no third party wields any actual power in the government. The thing about democracy is that it doesn't matter a lick how good your ideas are if you aren't holding an office. A good idea is worth less than the napkin it's scribbled on without any actual power to enact it.
Herman Cain Tweets From Beyond The Grave To Attack Biden And Harris
Although former GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain died from coronavirus in July, his Twitter account issued two posthumous attacks on Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, on Wednesday and Thursday, appearing to make good on the Cain family's vow to use his platforms "to share the information and ideas he believed in."
After Cain's July 30 death, his family issued a statement saying they would continue using his website and social media platforms to promote his conservative politics, but would do so under a new name: The Cain Gang.
I guess they're still doing it.

I'm not unconvinced that the GOP's necromancers have bound his spirit to the internet.
Some evil force is driving the Republicans now. It might as well be Sauron.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I'm not a huge fan of Cain, but seriously, let the guy (and his Twitter account) rest already!
What is wrong with these vultures?

With Maher I’d also not that he’s very ageist, being child-free is a significant part of his identity and he hold deep contempt for Millennials (regardless of if he uses the term right), if he can avoid ranting about political correctness and “kids these days” he can make some interesting points. I’ve stopped watching him recently because I find his insistence on applause clips in audience-less shows absurd.
