Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Actually, this alternative facts network
.
It's the inevitable outcome for a worldview that regularly seeks to sacrifice democracy on the altar of hierarchical capitalism. Republicans don't want to be politicians. They want to be feudal lords.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Re: Kellyanne leaving the White House: This is actually pretty significant. She was one of the most ardent sycophants. Interesting to see developments on how this will affect things: Will more leave?
Re: No GOP platform: aka "We don't work for the people who voted us in, we work for Trump and Trump alone." Though in a twisted way, it makes "sense" considering what I brought up a while back, that Trump runs the government like he runs one of his businesses: By the seat of his pants. What's the point of planning ahead on various issues if they might clash with Trump's whims at some point? The party is now officially a cult.

Republicans are shouting "Hoax hoax!" Democrats are asking if De Joy has records of the decision making process and did he consider the ramifications of his actions on medicine.
The Republicans are being pretty blatant about the fact that they don't want to pass a Postal Office bill.
They want to simplify it.
It's the only explanationfor their platform literally being "TRUMP GOOD!!!!! OBAMA BAD!!!!!"
...it's been a while since I got to use my Five exclamation points.

While the Republicans abandoning a party platform in favor of "We will do whatever Trump wants" is still extremely concerning, it's actually not much of change from the way things are now.
Paradoxically, it's a circuitous way of saying "Trump will do whatever we want."
Because all they have to do is make sure their interests are broadcast on Fox News. According to Former Trump DHS official Miles Taylor, there was a running joke that Lou Dobbs was the "Shadow Chief of Staff."
Of course, the downside to all this - which we've known all along - is that Trump is not the singular, individual responsible for the current state of the Republican Party. It's also everything and everyone around him, including the Republican Party.
