Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

On why I am always so touchy about discussing Sander's supporters 'blame' for Hillary losing:
That is because I think there is no solid evidence for that. Save for a very few, non-representative loudmouth idiots on Social Media, pretty much the entire base did fall in line and rally behind Hillary, on Bernie's behest I might add, if partially a bit bitter.
I just think that keeping this talking point alive further divides the party. And like was already said, Hillary did still win the popular vote, it was the Electoral College that screwed her regardless.
Unless there are real substantial numbers for this accusation, I would like to put it to rest.
But sorry if I seemed overly aggressive in my choice of words.

The 4 Crises that Biden says need to be addressed: The pandemic, the recession, racial justice, and climate crises.
He's tearing into Trump for the virus non response.

He hears the young activists. Shouting on gun control, the climate crises, economic inequality. He hears them and he'll fight for them alongside Kamala Harris.

Are you running for King of Gondor as well Joe?
"All you Fascists bound to lose."With the rhetoric Biden was using by the end, I have no trouble imagining him leading the armies marching on Mordor.
That was an excellent speech. Anyone yapping about Biden being senile is denying reality after the world saw that.
Yay! Fireworks! At least one thing remained traditional.

I confess, Pence saying no man can defeat him before being undone by a woman would be dramatically appropriate.
Trump is the Master of Laketown who somehow got promoted to Sauron's role in a terrible bad translation.
Bernie did many more rallies for Hillary than Hillary did for Obama. He's a very good loser but Hillary has tried to blame him anyway. Her supporters trying to use him as The Scapegoat is also just needless salt.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It's incredibly petty for a politician to trash talk their primary competitor, who they beat, years after the fact.
Not a good look for someone I otherwise admire.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. So tonight's convention got off to a weak start. It seems they were shoving in everyone who didn't fit into the first three nights and it came off as incoherent. But they found their footing as it went on.
The clips from ordinary people were solid as always. Biden's speech was very well done. Full of compassion and focus and confidence.
My favorite part had to be the primary candidates reunion it was so enjoyable seeing them together not trying to rip each other's heads off.
In a move that surprised no one, The Justice Department is asking the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling done by a lower court that prohibited Trump from blocking his critics on Twitter.
Yep. Totally not trying to censor the public.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Video of Trump telling Hannity he sending law enforcement to polling stations.
CONFESSION TIME:
I hate Trump's actions.
I hate that he can do horrible things every day and get away with them.
I hate how he makes a mockery of this country, it's laws, and it's actions.
I hate every day of this past three years.
I hate how he makes me afraid this country will never get better and democracy will die because he doesn't have any respect for democracy.
I hate how he's protected by an army of scummy democracy-hating trash that have betrayed their oaths of office.
I hate how exhausted this entire term has made me feel.
Every day I count down to election day while dreading it too.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Oh boy, scandal going down in Massachusetts in regards to the state's Democrats: The Intercept: the Massachusetts state Democratic Party Executive Director told student leaders to destroy communication evidence in regards to a failed attempt to ruin Holyoke mayor and MA-1 Democratic Congressional Candidate Alex Morse run by "gay bait."
You lost me at "Intercept".
If I'm remembering correctly, the Intercept is just a couple steps shy of Breitbart who, if the Race- Privilege, Relations, Racism, etc. thread is correct
, recently started officially calling Covid the China Virus.

The Intercept is unabashedly progressive/leftist and hostile to intelligence agencies, which means nearly every establishment Democrat is as evil as Republicans in their eyes, and their reporting follows suit. Their co-founder and columnist Glenn Greenwald has openly sneered at any suggestion that Russian operatives may have interfered in the 2016 election - nope, it's entirely because Hillary is as bad as Trump.
But that's just me. Politico has a more in-depth and neutral article on who they are, dated April 2019.

I personally just don't drink, but I imagine the amount of alcohol needed to try to watch it would make trying to watch it be a pointless (and short) effort anyway.
My musician pageI'll watch the comedy talk show recaps, thank you very much. I don't need to subject my brain cells to that kind of punishment directly. I'll save the drinking for election night.
