Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I’m curious as to the “only” there, I’ve heard lots about Biden voters being mainly enthusiastic to vote against Trump, but I don’t hunk I’ve seen anything about them only voting for Biden due to not wanting Trump.
As for what happens after should Biden win, it depends who the Republicans run next (also if Biden runs a second time).

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI imagine it depends on how well he handles things and why they're not enthusiastic. If he does a good job and many of the currently unenthusiastic were those voting for a more progressive choice in the primary, that's one thing. If they're mainly centrists and things are rockier, it's potentially something else.
The specific question the poll asked (it's here if you want to see it
, page 11) was "Would you say your vote is more FOR Joe Biden or more AGAINST Donald Trump? "). It doesn't say anything about that being their sole motivation. You can still be cool with Biden but have your vote be motivated more towards getting Trump out of office. It doesn't mean that he's generally unpopular in a context outside of "his opponent is Donald Trump".
And a lot of it is going to depend on how Biden does if he gets elected. He has room to win people over if things chill out, become more peaceful, and how he handles whatever future problems come.

Convention is starting.
Staring off traditional. Various Democratic activists and leaders reciting the Preamble of the Constitution. Biden's grandkids reciting the pledge of Allegiance. A cross country choir representing each state and territory singing the National Anthem. A reverend opening a prayer, partly in Spanish.
The host, apparently a woman from Desperate Housewives whose name I missed, is now talking to different people across the country about how the virus and Trump's policies have made life harder for all of them.

Montage of all the hurt Trump has caused over the past four years, followed by the activists, protests, and healthcare workers rising to the occasion. All set to Bruce Springsteen.
Short video of a Trump voter now turned Democrat urging other Trump supporters to rethink their vote.
Mayor of DC is ripping into Trump over attacking protesters for his church photo op.
George Floyd's family is up now, exhorting people to fight for racial justice.
Biden is doing a roundtable with Black leaders and activists about fighting systematic racism.
Video of people of color explaining what racism does to them and expressing support for Biden being able to address it.
Rep. Clyburn is giving a speech now. For such an old guy, he has a strong voice. "We know Joe, and most importantly Joe knows us."
A military dude is talking about Biden's character and genuineness.
Cuomo is up, attacking Trump for letting New York get devastated by the virus while Trump pretended it didn't exist and them played the blame game. He specifically pointed out the New York virus came from Europe while Trump was all "China! China!"

This one is a gut punch. Speaker is a woman whose Trump supporting dad died from Covid. She talked about how her dad believed everything Trump said about how harmless the virus was before he got infected.
"His only preexisting condition was believing in Donald Trump, and he paid for it with his life."
First Responders round table talking about how hard the pandemic has been on them and how bad it will be when fall comes because of Trump and how Biden can bring stability back.
Sara Gideon, senate candidate from Maine, got a bit and introduced the next breather singer.
Gretchen Whitmer is up, comparing Obama and Biden saving the Michigan auto industry to Trump blaming others and doing nothing to help Michigan while it was being ravaged by Covid. She goes on to highlight Biden's pandemic plan to bring back the country.

Gov. Whitmer: I'm Gretchen Whitmer or as President Trump would call me, "that woman from Michigan".

Hugging a Vanillite will give you frostbite. In Memoriam to the more than 160,000 we have lost. Seeing the number skyrocket suddenly in March and April was depressing.
Suddenly, Republicans!
"I'm a Republican, but..."
They're all saying mostly the same thing: Denouncing Trump and praising Biden.
Now, Doug Jones. Convictor of Klansmen. Man, he really does have such an inspiring story. I really really hope he gets reelected.

Be more Alabama than Alabama, damn you! >: (
Klobuchar is up, defending the Post Office, making bad jokes, and talking about how we need a president who won't be a manchild. Highlighting how Biden is scrappy, experienced, empathetic, and how she was proud to endorse him even though it cost her the primary.
And now a bunch of the other primary candidate are coming in, hyping Biden and his ability to unify all their ideas to his. Beto wasn't standing on a counter, sadly.
Now we're talking about what the economy means to ordinary people rather than just the stock market, and how Biden's economic plan will make things better for all of us instead of just the rich.
People who worked on the Amtrack talk about how Biden always treated them with respect and even checked up on them when in the hospital.

If it were any other organization I would suggest that the two trains of thought were not held by the same individuals...
