Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

It's almost like that first subpoena of FBI files basically got the answer of "there's nothing to find here on the Bidens, bosses, but there are other threads to pull that you're not going to like — sorry" or something which maybe put a lot of a dampner on things.

Unfortunately, Kevin McCarthy (House Minority Leader) and Kelly Loeffler are perfectly fine with having QAnon people in the House. [1]

Because I haven't been to sleep yet I read his name as "Senator Ron Swanson". Ron Swanson as a US Senator? The mind boggles
Trump delenda estAt least historically in the Cold War, nuclear weapons brought into international relations the concept of brinkmanship. With both sides having nukes and thus the capability of inflicting massive damage to the other, how much risk of a war are you willing to tolerate for the sake of whatever today's hot-button issue is going to be? The closer you consider this issue to be to your core national interests, the more you would be willing to tolerate the risk of war, including nuclear ones.

The damned queen and the relentless knight.None, other than party membership.
Trump is being outspoken that the scope of defunding the postal service is to impede mail voting
Tweet is from a guy named Benjy Sarlin, and reads
The tweet also links to another tweet
by a Eugene Daniels:
“They need that money in order to make the post office work so it can take all of these millions of ballots... If they don’t get those two items that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting”

It took Steve King openly embracing white nationalism by name for him to be stripped of his committee seats, despite being a virulent racist for years. He had major role in Republican politics in Iowa and was very influential in the state.
Kevin McCarthy pulled an endorsement of Ted Howze when racist social media posts surfaced, saying "hateful rhetoric has no place within the Republican Party". It rings even more hollow now, considering Greene's videos were at least as racist as Howze's posts.

For Colorado's Senate race, I keep seeing attack ads against Democratic challenger and former governor beloved by the state John Hickenlooper. The booming-voice narrator accuses Hickenlooper of financial crimes.
But the narrator calls him "Slick Shady" while Eminem plays in the background and the attack-photos are Hickenlooper wearing sunglasses and looking like a baller. They make him look fucking awesome.

Under a 1992 law, showerheads in the US are not allowed to produce more than 2.5 gallons (9.5l) of water per minute.
The Trump administration wants this limit to apply to each nozzle, rather than the overall fixture.
Consumer and conservation groups argue that it is wasteful and unnecessary.
The changes were proposed by the Department of Energy on Wednesday following complaints by Mr Trump at the White House last month.
"So showerheads - you take a shower, the water doesn't come out. You want to wash your hands, the water doesn't come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer or you take a shower longer? Because my hair - I don't know about you, but it has to be perfect. Perfect," he said.
Andrew deLaski, executive director of the energy conservation group Appliance Standards Awareness Project, said the proposal was "silly".
With four or five or more nozzles, "you could have 10, 15 gallons per minute powering out of the showerhead, literally probably washing you out of the bathroom," he told the Associated Press news agency.
"If the president needs help finding a good shower, we can point him to some great consumer websites that help you identify a good showerhead that provides a dense soak and a good shower," he added.
David Friedman, vice president of advocacy at the organisation Consumer Reports, said showerheads in the US already "achieve high levels of customer satisfaction", while saving people money.
The proposal could face court battles if it advances, Reuters news agency reports.
If this were literally any other President I'd believe in the peace agreement reached. But we're talking about a deal Negotiated with Trump, the man who always lies and commits fraud; North Korea giving up their Nukes for Peace? A lie. The new NAFTA? Broken in a matter of weeks. Peace Deal with the Taliban? Worthless from day 1. All of Trump's international agreements have been worthless, and the only reason I think Netenyahu even went along with it is to hedge his bets in case Trump loses in November (especially since his party really wants to own all of the West Bank).

Trump only helped broker the deal though. The agreement is solely between Israel and the UAE, no United States in the equation. So I'd expect the thing to stick, even after Trump is gone.
Life is unfair...

It looks like some House Republicans are fretting about the consequences that introducing an open QAnon supporter will bring
. Meanwhile the effort by Senate Republicans to fabricate a Biden scandal is having some difficulty due to cold feet
