Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Federal appeals courts haven't accepted the argument to dismiss his criminal charges. Flynn whines like baby.

- Allowing coronavirus to spread in jails.
- Discriminate against Muslims.
- Cooking an election in Wisconsin.
- Allowing a border wall.
Frankly, I am increasingly thinking that not Trump but SCOTUS is the biggest threat to democracy and wellbeing in America.

.
This is an unsurprising pick, but I feel that it will serve him well.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"She was seeded very high, if not #1, for the length of the process after all. No one should be really surprised.
Though I'm not sure if her mixed record will do the campaign any favor given that criminal justice has become such a huge issue. That said, she's quite popular among key demographics and she's got the experience to succeed Biden at any time.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
I imagine there was significant discussion, but she was in the top three on basically every list of prospective candidates.
Especially after Klobachar removed herself from consideration and Biden committed to picking a woman.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Kamala Harris
did work for a while for San Francisco, became first its district attorney then Attorney General of California and eventually Senator of California.
In her function of AG of California, she had a hand in many of California's criminal law adventures - including some misadventures that caused quite some controversy.

Previously Attorney General for California from 2010-2016, and then elected Senator in 2016. Very left when it comes to her views, and if you've seen any meme/trending videos about good, hard questioning of people in the government, chances are it's probably her. [EDIT: Oh god
'd by a lot.]
Also agreeing with everyone else: it wasn't really much of a shocker that she was ultimately picked. It was either her or Susan Rice.
