Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Makes me wonder how many heads would explode if someone became president and waited until being elected to reveal they weren’t Christian. Especially if they were *gasp* an atheist.
My musician pageKodak has lost a 1/3rd (Edit: now 40%) of its value marketwise due to the blocking of a 765 million dollar deal from the Trump administration. Notably, this rivals Enron and Madoff for all time greatest examples of fraud.
Because the almost billion dollar loan was on the premise of them making drugs for Covid-19.
Which the executives privately admitted they had no intention of doing so.
You know...being a CAMERA company.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Accusing people of being Secret Muslims and Jews is what created the Spanish Inquisition and is arguably the beginning of racism as we know it.

...There really should be someone whose job is to oversee these kinds of deals being made and call out when the basis is nonsensical.

My musician pageNot unrelated, apparently the Trump Administration has recently been noted as being the all-time most unregulated and unenforced white collar crime time in America's history.
But it saddens me that the biggest surprise from this is someone actually bothered to stop the lunacy of this blatant 1 billion dollar embezzlement.
The GOP certainly does love its socialism (for corporations).

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.I believe the answer is 765 million dollar dollars.
But no, it's 100% true.
Promises were already made to basically use the money to prop up all of its other losses and no real intention of making pharmaceuticals because, again, it's a scam.
And they're paying the price for it with their value having been halved.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. And yes, there's another "pharmaceutical company" That Trump gave a huge amount of money too that....doesn't have any pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities yet. It was founded to try to get loans from Trump.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. This reminds me of all those tired headlines about how 'those entitled Millennials' are 'killing the X industry'. Because how dare young people decide to spend their money on something they actually want or need rather than arbitrarily prop up an obsolete product! :V

But wait a second, though - this is a loan to Kodak, right? That means they have to pay it back, right?
Or are they just hoping that if they borrow enough money then they'll become Too Big To Fail and the government will continue to keep them afloat in the hopes they'll pay back their loans, which at that point they obviously never would?
Those sell-by-dates won't stop me because I can't read!I do love it when rich corporations are all in favour of capitalism until capitalism works as intended and they start to sink because no-one's buying their stuff anymore, at which point they turn around and ask the government for aid. Which the government then gives to them, while continuing to tell everyone how great capitalism is. :V

You know, people treat the economy like God. They're accusing Biden of taking God away. Ergo, Biden wants to take the economy away or kill it.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.
