Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

His third best quality is his willingness to compromise with more progressive platforms.
But no, I mean truly that I admire and applaud Joe Biden for his willingness to step aside after one term and let younger as well as newer figures in the Democratic Party step up. My hope is that he'll pass the torch to Kamala Harris and she'll be the President after him but I'm willing to accept whoever he chooses as his successor.
A man who makes a one term pledge and intends to keep it has my respect.

Also, Biden tells Fox News reporter that he has selected his running mate while riding his bike.
When the reporter asks who it is, Biden says, "You," as he rides past him.
Even if he intends to, he should not announce it ahead of the next election. Lame duck presidents lose a ton of influence with Congress and also with international figures.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"(On not announcing before the next election...)
Well, he kinda has to some time before November 2024...
Seriously though, one of the top reforms Biden could do is run for one term but not tell anyone till January 2024.
It would defacto cut the Democratic primary down from the 21 month marathon to a far more manageable 7 or so months.
I honestly don't know how a presidential campaign lasts two years...

The White House has already backtracked on Trump and social security.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Yes, let's have Biden step in for four years to apply Band-Aid brand bandages to the nation's wounds and then step aside, because he isn't progressive enough. Bang that drum, folks.
Biden's 77 and Sanders is 78. If you think Biden's too old, then the logic speaks for itself. Warren will be 75 in 2024; she might still be up for it, but that's highly speculative.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yes, but if we go there again, more thumps will get issued.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I'd rather Biden be a one-term president, but also that he should do as a good politician does, and only signal without stating or confirming that he's going to do just the one term until he's a fair way into the term and we know that the country is at least stable enough that him leaving the Oval Office won't result in a succession crisis of some kind.

Is there a problem with wanting to have not recycled the same presidential candidates for over a decade at that stage?
For all we know, even if Biden wins, some people may be so extreme that he will end up being a one-term president not even by his own volition (up to you what kinds of reasons may be why). We just can't tell at this point.
Look, the pitch was that everyone should coalesce into a Popular Front to beat Trump. I can't conceive of why challenging Biden after that is somehow still objectionable.
The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerI like AOC a lot, but I'd prefer she tries to take Schumer's position when he inevitably leaves office. She could do a lot of good in the Senate, Presidency would be better off in the hands of someone who has more political experience (not necessarily in higher office, activists are good too). Like Booker.

Not his progressive platform? Or the judges he'd appoint?
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.
