The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Clearly all Obama has to do is laugh through the entire debate and mock Romney and be all "Bitch please>"

When I last checked, Yahoo!'s front page poll about who had won in the debates was a 50/50. I'll check again.

Eh, Obama was very "bitch please" in the first debate and got his ass kicked. He was just very non-verbal about it.

Hmm

Obama is too polite and passive and everyone says he wasn't aggressive enough.

Biden goes on the offense and is called rude and mean.

Clearly the democrats are supposed to just lay down and die.

Well, Biden is called rude and mean.

But that's not the same as saying that it caused him to lose the debate.

Its odd why they keep making a point over this Libyan thing.

They made a mistake, at first thinking it was the protests firsts.

Eh, let's all vote for who we want.

I for one liked Biden's style; he kicked ass and had some facts. Obama may have gotten his organs handed to him by Romney in the debates but that doesn't mean I buy Mitten's vision one bit. Remember the issues, people. Who do you really think is going to be the better leader?

Neither of them I think is good enough for the Presidency.

Romney has what it takes to be a leader and has more experience leading, but I don't trust him farther than I can throw him not to sell us out to his "friends" and not to go to war with Iran.

Obama is somewhat of a wuss, but I agree with some of his policies more, and he's done a somewhat okay job already. He's also mended our relationship with some of the rest of the world, which is good also.

And Romney managed to piss off every country he visited a few months back.

A steady hand is what this country needs, so I support Obama.

Republicans give ZERO shits about diplomacy. Hell many want ot leave the UN.

[up][up][up][up][up] Apparently, the American voting public want a leader who talks loudly, regardless of how many lies he can spew within 38 minutes. How else can the first debate be explained?

He did well with the Poles.

Mainly by talking sh*t about Russia.

Romney's sheer sex appeal?

If we voted for who we actually wanted to win, this would probably turn into the Jill Stein and Rocky Anderson Thread Featuring Guest Appearances by Gary Johnson.

"I love my friend here," Biden said during the debate in Danville, Ky. "I'm not allowed to show letters here, but go on our website. He sent me two letters saying, by the way, can you send me some stimulus money for companies here in the state of Wisconsin?"

Hahaha ouch.

[up][up][up][up] IIRC, a bunch of Poles kinda retracted their support for him during/shortly after his visit, once they found out how anti-union his views were (which didn't exactly jive with their proud history of Solidarity). I don't know the exact details, though.

Watching a rerun.

Ryan is blaming the Obama administration for the automatic defense budget cuts set to happen.

But I distinctly remember those being set by a bipartisan congress committee.

Not to mention those cuts are incredibly fucking negligible. The Navy. I still can't get over that.

We've seen a reboot of the nuclear arms race, pouring billions into refurbishing our existing warheads while making plutonium for new ones. I think we can stand to lose a destroyer here or there.
