Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

He did good on that. His opinion is similar to mine, but I'm a bit stronger in my belief that it is wrong. Can't force it on people though.
EDIT- don't hate me, but I was curious as to how a certain image board responded. Ignoring some disturbing crap, I found this.

I'm baaaaaaackAt this point, the debates are just theater. Everyone who is planning to vote already knows who they are going to vote for and why. After this debate (just like the last one), everyone's bias is going to be re-affirmed.
Tv Tropes is a liberal-friendly site; we all think that Biden "won" because he said stuff that appeals to us. The opponents are going to say that he lost because he said stuff that they don't like, and Ryan said stuff they did like.
Really, there are no swing voters * left. Everyone's already made up their minds. So let us all give up the fiction that these debates are going to change a damn thing.
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~Joe bought facts with him and beat Paul's ass with them. If the base of your plan is mathematically impossible and you still support it, you are an idiot :

Exactly
Voters are fickle, tone and image are nearly everything at times like these
Ryan used the exact same strategy as Romney, and that worked the first time no? I specifically said that Ryan probably won even if personally I don't think so and it doesn't make sense.
If people have really made up their minds,we wouldn't have so much swinging, every state would stay solid blue or solid red.
@Drunk: No, they'll change it alright. The idea is, this is an election that depends almost entirely on base turnout. Biden needed to re-energize the Democratic base in this debate, and he most certainly did.
As an aside, "Instant polls" are utter nonsense and should be laughed out of popular discourse. The sample size isn't anywhere near large enough to fall into statistical significance. Also, as far as I know, pollsters operate on a bit of a lag, so we'll have to wait and examine polls that pertain to the days immediately after the debate to see if there are any changes in the numbers - not the polls released in the days immediately after, mind you, since they're the surveys taken in the days leading up to and on the day of the debate.

Maybe thats why Obama decided to take a nap.
So what were some stand out points?
Liberal rag.
Remember. If a non fox poll favors republicans in whatever, its the truth and the republicans scored a victory. But if Democrats get the favor, its a liberal media conspiracy.

To me, the defining moment of the debate is the final question. The moderator asked "How do you feel about this negative campaign?"
Biden and Ryan attacked each other during their speeches, and completely failed to answer the question.
Except for 4/1/2011. That day lingers in my memory like...metaphor here...I should go.Well, that was entertaining. I'd say Biden clearly won but I don't actually care.
Will this change the polls significantly? Well, maybe in terms of the electoral vote. And if Romney does win? Quite frankly, maybe we deserve it. Maybe Republicans will begin to understand that voting against someone rather than for them can have damning consequences and Democrats will take a more principled stance on key human rights issues once Obama is out of office.
Or we'll get distracted by the latest stupid thing Romney said.

I felt that Biden hit the abortion question out of the park myself.
