The General US Politics Thread

Go To

Nov 2023 Mod notice:

There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.

If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.

Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.

If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.

In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I think that Biden won. Ryan seemed a bit too rehearsed. But I will say that this debate was much closer than the other one. Who you think won really depends on your political preferences.

Isn't moving to toss up from Leaning Romney bad for him, though?

Although I just have a lot of trouble reading graphs in general. >< I'm better when you tell me percentages without a lot of confusing lines.

I think Grizzly meant Leaning Obama to toss up,but if these states were Leaning Romney at one point, there is hope.

Looks like Romney is gonna take those swing states

I think I've liked the wrong page on facebook. It's patriotic type stuff but 99% of it's members are rabid tea-party types. someone called Obama a "muslim shoe-shiner" and got around 30 likes within a minute...

Yeah, I meant Lean Obama. Pennsylvania has been Obama all along, but steadily eroding over time. The others have been back and forth.

Republicans are complaining about Raddatz, saying she was unfair.

@Joesolo: I have this friend on Facebook who says racist things about anything President Obama does. I think Obama could cure cancer and cause world peace and he would still call him names. At some point I'll get along to deleting him.

Still to early to tell. Inadequate information.

From what I can gather, Biden won, but not by a large margin.

But I can't tell for sure.

I'll be honest - I actually fell asleep in the first debate.

Not so much this one. i actually enjoyed it. Biden and Raddatz were especially impressive.

Cnn poll: who do you feel won the debate results so far? Joe Biden 66% Paul Ryan 34%

That seems fair.

As I saw it, Biden started strong, but lost control of the narrative near the end (though stayed strong in foreign policy). He did appeal to facts a bit more, but wasted a lot of opportunities for calling in facts to instead attack the Romney campaign, which just reinforces the centrist cult.

Ryan scored rather few points, but did somehow manage to slip out of the budget math scrutiny. >_>

And Biden's abortion answer lacked conviction. I have seen arguments from pro-choicers that I could respectfully disagree with (or sometimes accept); his was incoherent.
