Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Yeah, but I'm going to assume your dad isn't striving to be one of the most powerful individuals in the world.
We already have a president so visibly unhealthy he looks like the only things holding him together are drug cocktails and baby's blood.
Bernie's too obviously geriatric for the job.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Sanders' enduring legacy - assuming he doesn't get the presidency - might be that his 2016 bid inspired people like AOC that there was more room for left-wing politics in America than originally thought.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."I'm also remembering all the freaking out over Hillary Clinton's supposed health problems. I don't want this to be the cause of someone dropping out, but we do have to think realistically about the probability of a candidate surviving their term.
Trump is an anomaly. I don't know how he stays alive.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"That was my theory about what kept Scalia going for his last 10 years or so.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |I'm not sure what you mean: every Presidential candidate has released a health report, even Trump, laughable as that document was. If you mean they should do it before announcing their candidacy... maybe. I'm not sure what purpose that would serve. Also, heart disease can lie dormant for a long time without symptoms.
There are no guarantees, only probabilities.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Honestly, it's probably that Trump has had a fairly low-stress life. He's never wanted for anything, never faced consequences, never had to deal with much of anything. And thanks to his detachment from reality, all his scandals and shit don't even truly worry him because he knows he's invincible.

Trump is a couple years younger than Sanders so I would not necessarily read a lot into him.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI mean, depends how he does it.
If he does it gracefully and appoints someone as worthy of carrying his torch? While I don't see it as likely, it could be good for everyone, himself included.
Like, it sort of offers him an out from his cult of personality. Given the way polls are going, he might see the writing on the wall and realize that A: better to take the out than to lose and B: in doing so, he can play kingmaker, a fact I don't think he would mind both in terms of policy and pride.
But regardless, really hope he's okay.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. Are there any statistics on how much of his supporters actually practiced "Bernie or Bust"? I suspect most of Bernie's supporters still recognised voting for Hillary as being preferable to the other options.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."A very low %. But it could have made the difference in 2016 given how close some states were.
As for his campaign now...it's probably done. There's no chance now of getting momentum again. He's been stalling for a while now, and with this he's going to lose crucial time he needs to get that momentum back.

They'd probably put his name on the Clinton kill list first.
