Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Seriously, could we not demonize every Wall Street person and call them "parasites"? Remember that more and more Wall Street people are warming up to Warren, in large part because younger ones are more progressive.
Or at least make it clear that you're specifically referring to the donors who are making the threats.

Disgusted, but not surprisedOr at least make it clear that you're specifically referring to the donors who are making the threats.
Oh for god's sake, since I specifically mentioned being hated by parasites it should be obvious that I'm talking about those Wall Street Donors.
Members of Wall Street who support progressive economic policy are not parasites. Those who don't are, especially if they threaten to support a goddamn fascist.
<breathes in>
<breathes out>
Please don't suggest that the people who are threatening to support a fascist are comparable to the Jews in Nazi Germany or that I'm the same as anti-semite for hating them for it, if they don't want me to consider them parasites then they can stop acting in a parasitic manner.
An apology would be appreciated for this egregious and entirely unwarranted attempt at character assassination.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangYeah I’d say it’s pretty disrespectful to actual holocaust victims to compare their suffering to the ‘suffering’ of rich donors being called out for trying to meddle in a primary election.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThat wasn’t Spartan, who is the one that Drunken subject to the baseless Nazi comparison.
If you want to compare Metal to nazis for saying people should be tortured because of their profession I’m not going to object, but that’s one specific individual, not everyone in this thread who has a negative opinion of the financial industry.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranYes, and it wasn't rhetoric that I used.
I will never apologize for accurately describing members of Wall Street who decide to put their financial interests above the interests of society, i.e parasites.
Just because the Nazis pretended to hate plutocracy, through racialized lens, doesn't mean that actual plutocracy shouldn't be opposed.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangThen say “I think it’s best to avoid the word parasite, as it has some pretty bad history, even if it might apply here”. I like blind snark as much as the next guy, but it has a time and a place.
If you have a problem with someone’s language say that to them, don’t snark to another person that the language sounds “familiar...”.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI thought more of the Red Scare than anything.
But fair point, I'm sure the lower ends of Wall Street aren't our enemy. The puppetmasters at the top are the ones we ought to lay low.
ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.Indeed, and that is an argument that I would've taken seriously.
But they had to accuse me of being a Nazi, oh well. I certainly have no intention of considering it now.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangTo elaborate, I always think more of Andrew Ryan when it comes to the term Parasite. Alas, the villain that he is, he did not realize that a better description of the parasites would have been the monopolizing Idle Rich, much like he was, rather than the poor and the idea of Big Government. But I understand and agree that such wording could lead go Godwin's Law and lending truth to those accusations if we don't keep ourselves in check.
Reason why I used that term is that the Idle Rich don't exactly work for the benefits of the many, and are content to sap away economic growth and distribution from the populace. Others have used this to describe whatever groups of people they don't like. And it's probably a foregone conclusion that the Final Solution is certainly not the solution.

ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.So, umm... I don't think I should have to say this, but here goes.
- Calling for one's political enemies to be imprisoned or tortured without being accused or convicted of a crime is not acceptable.
- Wishing direct harm on any person as a political statement is not acceptable.
- Recommending the suspension of civil liberties or the judicial process to imprison or harm a person one disagrees with is not acceptable.
- Stating or implying that people are Nazis is not acceptable, unless they are actual Nazis.
- Insinuating that anger towards a particular group of people for political reasons is based on racism, unless there is actual evidence in word or deed of said racism, is unacceptable
Is anything here unclear?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"As a Jew, screw the rich. Take all of their money and give it to poor people. Any enemy of Wall Street Republican donors is a friend of mine, Warren is my frontrunner and has been for a while.
But again, as a Jew, be very careful when throwing around generalities in your hatred of rich people. A lot of insults and metaphors towards rich assholes are also extremely common Dog-Whistles used by anti-Semites. You can hate bankers and Wall Street all you want, but it's best to just avoid metaphors and name-calling altogether, lest you accidentally stumble into an anti-Semitic slur without even realizing it, as did indeed happen above.
With Great Power Comes Great Insanity.
Anyhow, I'd like a recap on Soros.
ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.

She absolutely should, there are few greater endorsements then being hated by parasites like them
