Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I think that would be fair.
It would still be far less of a hassle than people constantly drifting into a de-facto forbidden topic and being forced back on track. This could be a good vent for all this.
So I'm all for it. Who else?

They're really annoying. 2: ... I personally won't be touching that thread until something actually happens.
To be honest, I'm pretty sure the whistleblower complaint will be a nothingburger.
Well, that's not true. I'm sure it's going to be blatantly obvious and make it abundantly clear that Trump acted improperly. But not in any new way. It will have the exact same Could Say It, But... and weasel-y shit that Trump always has that any sane person interprets as "oh. He's threatening them. Huh." But there's always juuuuuuuuuuuuuust enough Shame If Something Happened that the aggressively both-sides-y American public is happy to jump on.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I'm against it. Spin-off threads meant specifically to separate a heated and problematic topic away from this thread don't seem to work out very well in practice. I'm reminded of the last spin-off thread that was made recently.
The header is there. If people choose to ignore it and get snarky when reminded of it, then report them to the mods.
Yeah, it was.

Yeah, I agree. Especially when we're talking about something as important to US politics as impeachment. It'll be a pain to quarantine it to its own thread, avoiding the pros/cons of impeachment are the least bad option.
Now Trump is saying the whistleblower should be punished for treason and alludes to how spies used to be executed (note: Whistleblowers are not spies). Then there's this:

A first: Vermont GOP governor backs Trump impeachment probe – Vermont’s governor has become the first Republican chief executive to support impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump but cautions that he wants to know more before any further actions are taken
Wall Street Democratic donors warn the party: We'll sit out, or back Trump, if you nominate Elizabeth Warren

... how's that bad optics for them?

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. Not surprising, she's been a thorn in their backsides for ages, and her being elected ia their worst fear, you know how the mob turned to Joker in the Dark Knight because of batman? They'd do the same to her if they could,in this case directly fund Trump
have a listen and have a link to my discord server... how's that a problem for them? Optics are only a thing if you're visible. That's bad optics for the DNC, but not for them.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Elizabeth Warren should take that statement and frame it. It's free publicity for her: "Wall Street's in a panic, because I'm comin' for them!" Heck, maybe I should make a video with Warren's face to the tune of "When the Man Comes Around."
And I say this as someone who's usually pretty cool with big business. Seriously, this was an own goal.
The big donors are out of touch with a lot of people on Wall Street. Remember that we had an article here a while back on how Wall Street people are warming up to Warren as a candidate.
It doesn't really help them to make this statement anyway. They seemed to have forgotten that the DNC doesn't actually rig primaries. The people vote for the candidate.

Disgusted, but not surprised

Since so many people disregard or overlook it, would it maybe be an option to make an impeachment-only thread, where it is allowed to discuss in length, pros and cons included?
