Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

A US soldier is being charged
with plotting to blow up a "major US news network," join a far-right militia in Ukraine, and possibly planning to assassinate Beto O'Rourke.
Not exactly a criminal mastermind here.
Disgusted, but not surprisedIf you're falling back on hard power instead of soft power then you're literally not doing isolationism, in that they're both how you interact with others y'know the exact opposite of being properly isolationist.
Trump would be isolationist if he was unilaterally withdrawing from US commitments overseas, slashing the size of the military, leaving international organizations, or some combination of the previous things.
But he has done nothing of the sort, as you say, he has merely moved from soft power to focusing on hard power. Which, I repeat, is in no way isolationism.

After people complaining about how USA were self serving hypocrites that didn't had any humanitarian concern at all, Trump went "Yeah, USA don't care for anything, even alliances, because we're so cool

Trump mocks teen climate activist
Posting a fatalistic statement the Swedish teen had made earlier Monday at the United Nations’ special meeting on climate change, Trump tweeted: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!“
[...]
Thunberg has developed an international following for her persistent efforts to get the international community to combat climate change, particularly winning support among young people. Trump’s tweet contained one of her quotes from her U.N. remarks Monday: ”People are suffering, people are dying, entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth.”
Michael Knowles referred to Thunberg as “a mentally ill Swedish child who is being exploited by her parents and by the international left," but at least Fox issued an apology for him being a dick.

Except his impeachable actions have been well documented, so this is absolutely not a windmill thing. Impeachment is the only right course of action as the President has shown he has no respect for the rules and laws governing his position.
Much like, early on, he said he was gonna release his tax returns. Then he said they were too complicated, and then he tried to stifle any talk about it.

We kind of got stuck on the political advantages / disadvantages because it was a hypothetical. If Pelosi has come to the conclusion that it's go time and hypothetical turns to reality then the discussion of "should we Impeach" is moot - it's happening and we'll see in due course if or not it was the right decision.
Alea iacta est, as Julius Caesar supposedly said.

Trump is too stupid to dismantle the US Hegemony but it's not from lack of trying.
