Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

If by "other side" you mean the Kremlin...there's a nonzero chance. Their whole shtick is to throw money at candidates who do nothing but stir shit up in the USA's political discourse. That and astroturf social media to make them seem more popular than they really are.

Disgusted, but not surprisedStupid arrogant hacks are the people least interested in doing sensible things like dropping out when they are clearly going nowhere, and unlike proper candidates, they lack political careers to jeopardize by staying in long past their defeat.
I hope the Kremlin is funding Williamson, it'd be great if they wasted their money on a candidate who is irrelevant.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangFrankly given how badly we lost control of the narrative with collusion there's no point in them trying to be sneaky about it because the American public won't believe Russia's interfering in our politics.
Yeah. At this point, Putin could just straight out start making appearances at Trump rallies, and the Right would still deny Russian interference.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Well, the problem I have with Williamson is that someone who thinks that trying to force Hurricane Dorian away with (essentially) telepathy and prayers isn't crazy
isn't someone I'd trust with managing any kind of problem situation.
Williamson is a lunatic. The fact that she's in the race at all indicates that someone has been feeding her ideas. I wouldn't be surprised if she has backing from outside groups who want to use her to disrupt the Democratic primary. It reminds me a bit of Jill Stein from 2016.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Honestly, at this point one should just hope that it's not gonna be Biden.
You might have your personal preferences, but whether it's gonna be Sanders or Warren running, it will be a huge fucking relief.

He would likely win against Trump as well, but his presidency would feature a lot of internal conflict between the Democrats. Add Bernie's "independent" fantasies and yeah, I take Biden over that every day

Watch me destroying my countrySaying that Sanders has "all of Bidens missteps" is, quite frankly, utterly ridiculous.
You can hate Bernie for being largely against the Democratic Establishment, ok (even though I highly doubt that any of these disgruntled Democrats are gonna side with Republicans over him) but comparing him to that clueless doofus that is Biden holds no water whatsoever.

Sanders has his missteps and there's certainly criticism that can be made but I think a comparison to Biden is kind of ridiculous, Biden's gaffes are far worse and he lacks Sander's role in moving the Overton window Left.
There's no contest, Biden's worse.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangAlso, Sanders has some actual policies he's presenting in his run.
Biden....honestly, I can't remember a single tangible thing he's offered in his run so far.
He solely relies on his "I'm better than Trump, and I'm like the Grandfather you never had!" shtick.

I agree, Sanders is better in (domestic, Sanders foreign policy is suspect at best) policy terms. But there are serious questions about his ability to actually get his policies implemented, he's not known as a productive politician or as a team player.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I mean, POTUS doesn't get much say in the filibuster, that's up to whoever is running the show in the Senate.
And since Sanders would probably have even less control over a Democratic Congress than your average Democratic President, I doubt that is a huge factor.

Trump admitted that he tried to get Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden's son. On Sunday, Trump told reporters that he spoke on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 25, during which Trump said he told Zelensky that he didn't want people like Biden and his son adding to the corruption in Ukraine. "The conversation I had was largely congratulatory, was largely corruption," Trump said, "all of the corruption taking place, was largely the fact that we don’t want our people like Vice President Biden and his son [contributing] to the corruption already in Ukraine." Trump also insisted that he did "absolutely nothing wrong" during the call, adding that it was a "perfect" phone call. (Axios / Vice / Washington Post)
Officially they don't, but if we're being real here they will have a huge influence on senators to get them to do what they want. Which is probably why almost all the candidates who are senators had a knee-jerk reaction to say no. They don't like the idea of the executive branch butting in to put pressure on them to do anything.
He’d probably work well with say Harris, but Warren taps into a lot of Rust Belt votes with her semi-popularism as is.
I suspect that we’re getting a gender balanced ticket whatever happens, so Bernie and Biden would both pick women V Ps.
I still fear Bernie doing a Mc Cain and picking a crazy VP, such as Gabbard.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranKnowing Bernie, I can see that. Welcome to the most Cursed Foreign Policy ever

Watch me destroying my country

Even the three way battle seems to be heading in a particular direction. That is, Sanders hasn't really gained much traction or momentum from what I can tell. Meanwhile Warren has steadily risen in popularity and if I recall already places second in a lot of polls.
Might be early to say but I'm pretty sure it's going to down between Biden and Warren in the end.
