Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

So CBS has some aggregate polling results that have some interesting information
. According to them, Biden isn't really losing any ground, but Warren is making important gains from people who switched to her when their preferred candidates either dropped out or lost steam. In addition nearly half (47%) of people who don't have her as their first choice are considering her meaning she might have room to win them over. Finally, her perceived electability among voters has also risen noticeably since June, from 39% to 55%.
So assuming all of this is accurate, it looks like the endgame to this primary is a close contest between Biden and Warren. It could be close but it doesn't seem altogether implausible that Warren could edge out a win although I wouldn't be surprised if Biden won in the end. Sanders is still in third place but he doesn't really have a lot of momentum right now so I don't think he will be able to beat Warren.

IIRC Five Thirty Eight, or someone, pointed out that it's possible for Biden to keep all of his current support and still lose. With that in mind, this news is very encouraging. Hopefully, Warren can keep up her growth and eventually beat Biden.
Yeah as much as Biden is leading he currently is only sitting in the high twenties/low thirties, that’s pretty good in a huge field, but in a 2-3 person field that’s not particularly good.
The way windowing goes will matter a lot, a big thing could easily be if Warren and Biden are both sitting in the high 30s/low 40s if Bernie would drop out and out his support behind Warren, because that’s probably her best way to win, become the clear second choice then have Bernie push her over the top.

The name of the index? The Volfefe index.
Volfefe is golden. We need more funny neologisms that use Trump's own incoherencies to mock him.
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Technically, he does still get the money. He just donates it to government institutions.
This is the only donation he made that I think might have actually been genuinely in good faith (for Trump at least)
I've mentioned before that his commitment to being a teetotaller is perhaps the only trait of Trump I can actually kind of respect.
Disgusted, but not surprisedYeah, his continuing reaction to his brother's death - his own stance on taking such substances and his continuous support of charities that tackle those issues - are one of the very few humanising things about him. Certainly the only one I can think of right now.
Although, "billionaire doesn't do anything about a problem until it affects them" isn't such a likeable angle when you think about it that way. It's like when people pointed out the late Koch Brother donated a lot of money to cancer charities ... because he had survived cancer himself.

It's admirable if true,my cynical side says he presents himself as a teetotaller but the reality is that he's anything but, when your a dude who does runs on the platform of projection it's hard to tell what's true and what's real
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverTrump's drink of choice is apparently Diet Coke.
He even has a red button on his desk for it.
I drink Coke Zero. I chose wisely.

"Who paid for the wall!?"
"US!!"
That said, this money-grabbing has to be illegal in more ways than one...
I'm actually anticipating that as a pro-Trump chant.
I 100% expect around mid-2020 for Trump to announce that he has a plan to make Mexico pay us back for the funds used to build the wall, as well as further funds for more wall construction.
"I have a plan," he'll say. "And if we're still here in 2021, then you'll hear my plan. But if [Democrat Primary Winner] is sitting there in the Oval Office, then they'll just make us pay for the wall. So if you want Mexico to pay for the wall, I guess you better turn out for Trump."
