Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Fingers crossed Dems can put out two strong candidates, if nothing else the Republicans being on the defensive in Georgia should drain money from elsewhere.
Quite, her efforts to help are better than nothing. I suppose she has her reasons for not wanting to run but it's disappointing all the same.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji Yang"The DNC has lost patience with griping about its debate rules. "There have been 21 qualifying polls. That is 21 opportunities to reach 2 percent in four polls. That is not hard.” - @XochitlHinojosa"
and "It's obviously not a perfect heuristic, in part because this can confuse cause and effect (i.e. losing campaigns have more to complain about), but in general the quality of a campaign is inversely proportional is how often it publicly argues/kvetches about the polls."

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Trump doesn't need state-run TV. He already has Faux News, Newsmax, RT America, One America News... god, there are a lot of right-wing news networks, and they still whine that conservatism isn't mainstream. (rolls eyes)
Considering what the right-wing actually represents now, the sheer amount of networks representing the right-wing is bad for America and the world.
Do not obey in advance.
and then they'll find some new thing to whine about. some new thing to decry as "liberal left-wing bad thing(TM)". because they can't function unless they are positioning themselves adversely towards some perceived threat.

I'm afraid I can't explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?Not sure about Business Insider as a source, but the headline was compelling:
US spies say Trump's G7 performance suggests he's either a 'Russian asset' or a 'useful idiot' for Putin – "President Trump's behavior over the weekend was a new low," an FBI agent, one of five intel veterans who raised concerns about Trump, told Insider.

@Ultimatum: He'd have to get Congress to fund it though.
@Gabbard's whining: The only area I'd be slightly fuzzy about the debate requirements is if we had a self-financed candidate and they announced that donor numbers would be required after the campaign began (don't move the goalposts). As #1 doesn't apply, I'm not worried.
If Gabbard still can't reach 2% after all this time and while being propped up by the Kremlin, she's pretty much done. It's not the DNC's fault she's totally incompetent.
She and Williamson (and hell, every other candidate who is still in the race despite not qualifying for the next debate) ought to just bow out now while they still have some dignity left. But then again, if they were capable of that level of self-awareness and humility, they probably wouldn't have stuck around even after the first debate.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI kinda want Gabbard to stay in, she’s drawing Russian troll support away from Bernie, as much as I dislike Bernie he has a chance and the less he is influenced by Russia in the early primary the better he will be.

Trump could create his own state run media to push his politics further, not giving him ideas but its something he could do if he wanted
