Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Nice to see that most of the resume padders didn't make it, and Gabbard is out to. Of those who remain, the only ones who truly have no business being on stage are O'Rourke and Yang.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Oopd, I was wrong. Dorian just got upgraded to Hurricane strength as it passes just to the northeast of Puerto Rico.
And Florida should be expecting a major hurricane over the weekend.

My musician pageThat might explain why he's moved from stock Fox News talking points to trying to buy Greenland, unilaterally end birthright citizenship, and nuke hurricanes. Trump used to be unreasonably cruel and stupid, but now he's unreasonably cruel, stupid, and unintelligible.

BA-DA DUM DUM DUM
Another one bites the dust.
Isakson wasn't up for re-election yet, either. He was first elected in 2004. With 6-year intervals in the Senate, Isakson's seat was safe until 2022. So that just added +1 to the seats Republicans will be defending in 2020.
That said, he won the 2016 election 54.8% to 41%, so even without the incumbent advantage, we'd probably have an uphill battle trying to flip it. Still, anything that stretches the Republican defense a little bit thinner is a welcome addition to the impending battle.
EDIT: Wait, no, I'm just stupid. The way Georgia's process works is that the governor picks someone to replace him and then that person sits in for the remainder of the unexpired term. Never mind. This has no impact on 2020 whatsoever.
And that governor is Republican Brian Kemp, who suppressed minority votes in order to claim the governorship in 2018, then signed a Democrat-backed law to restrict the voter suppression methods he himself had utilized? So. That's weird.
