Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

And understandable thing to do, considering that literally that exact thing happened and that totally cut them off at the knees a few weeks back. Not telling Trump when you're doing things seems to be the only sensible thing to do if you actually want to apprehend people.
Although I must admit I don't understand why they'd tell him anyway, that seems to be a bit micromanage-ey? Or is that just a normal thing to do in a normal presidency?
NYPD arrested 100 people during an anti-ICE protest in Manhattan today. [1]
I believe that’s one of the largest mass arrests during one of these protests to date.
They should have sent a poet.A running Twitter thread of people named as Epstein associates in court documents.
The general political leaning of Epstein's people seems to be vaguely centrist - even Trump was hobnobbing with the Democrats when they hung out. I'm not saying the establishment far-right don't have terrible skeletons in their closets, but if they have them, they seem to use a different source.
What's precedent ever done for us?Trump, I should point, out was a Democrat until asked to run for President by Roger Stone during George W. Bush's election. He was just a corrupt racist asshole Democrat.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It's to expand on Trump was hobnobbing with the Democrats when they hung out.
Another piece on the Evil Turtle
and the reason I was hoping that his name was on that list.
Based on the running thread, here is a list of people mentioned and my analysis of their political leanings which is happy to change if I get more info.
New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D)
Sen. George Mitchell (D)
VP. Al Gore (D)
Tipper Gore (D)
Naomi Campbell (U)[Leaning D]
Adam Perry Lang (U)
Tom Pritzker (U) [Likely D]
Eva Dubin(D)
Pres. Bill Clinton (D)
Pres. Donald Trump (R) [Although during the early 2000's he'd technically be a D according to wikipedia. I think he's a U in his heart]
Prince Andrew (U)
Sarah Feguson (U)
Matt Groening (D)
Robert Kennedy Jr. (D)
Ghislaine Maxwell (U)
If we remove Trump from the list for being a slipperly flipflopper, there is no one who is R and a lot of strong Ds. This list of 15 people is a bit over half Democratic (8), under half unknown(6), and one republican(1).

Certainly, but one thing to keep in mind is that Trump was in New York. I highly doubt you have many powerful Republicans or other Right-wingers there, ergo it makes perfect sense that his group of plausible perfidious predators would be compromised of Democrats and politically apathetic people.

Also regardless how much conspiracy theorists might think all powerful people are in cahoots with each other, having people of opposing political groups in the same sexual predator club is just asking for blackmail and smear campaigns to happen.
So it's not really a big surprise.

We learn from history that we do not learn from history

Huh - for some reason I was expecting something much more disturbing there. I am guessing that I have become numbed.
