Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

They also had something about how, surprisingly, it seems that white people might be becoming less racist during Trump's presidency, largely due to white Democrats becoming more aware of persisting racial issues. Basically the reverse of the most racist people becoming emboldened by his presidency.
It seems formal impeachment proceedings have begun:

I can't wait for absolutely nothing to come of this
The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.My opinion is something has come from this already: a formally written down notice that Mr. Trump's actions are criminal.
You might not be able to arrest Evil Superman but you at least stated you would if you could.

Especially as the alternative is, "The Democrats don't bring charges because...he's guilty?"
That's some weird logic there, friend.
In simple terms, Trump is eating a baby on camera. Do you not arrest him, even knowing you can't make the charges stick because of a literal deal with Satan? Because all not arresting him does is just show you don't believe he's done anything wrong.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Don't see why, Rogan (whatever else you think of him and who he hosts) is one of the biggest podcasts in the world and has one of the biggest audiences in the world (I think that alone is already a significant amount of credibility/legitimacy and Sanders appearing on it won't change that much). And that audience are exactly the kind of people we should be trying to reach, because a lot of them aren't that far away from being converted (for the lack of a better term) to a more left-wing way of looking at things. Many are justifiably angry at economic inequality and disillusioned with the current political landscape. The problem is that right-wing pundits lead them towards blaming the wrong people and end up in an echo chamber of lolbertarian, alt-right and far-right talking points, conspiracy theories and rhetoric and you have to break into those echo chambers to break people out. Now, I used to watch Joe Rogan, and I stopped watching it because even though Rogan presents himself as politically neutral and broad-minded and just invites people "he's interested to talk with" on his show, I saw an uptick in the amount of alt-right, anti-PC brigade getting airtime and less and less left-wingers. Now, I'm not about to start complaining about more left-wingers like David Pakman, Cornel West or even Bernie Sanders appearing in a space that has often platformed prominent members of the alt-right because that audience are the guys we want to convince to change their minds.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."He's been very critical of trans women competing in contact sports against cis women because of the physiological differences. At the time I was watching him, which a few years back at this point, that kinda went over my head.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."I don't have an opinion on Rogan, I've never heard of him. Getting a general feel of someone who is not part of the left politically, is a political commentator so almost by definition has to trade in some level of controversy and may have some questionable beliefs - I'm not exactly in a rush to learn more about him.
Either way however, I'm generally thinking that it's too early to go on that sort of show. If we were deep within the primary season and we were down to less than five candidates then Sanders showing his ability to connect with non-Democrat voters would be a good thing, given that we would in effect be transitioning to the general election at that point.
Right now however, when we still need to take off our socks to count the Democrat candidates, I'm not sure it's a good move unless it resonates somehow with the Democrat Primary electorate. Going on Fox News was a good move as it became a talking point in and of itself within left wing media that Sanders was getting a positive reception there (bonus: it even got Trump annoyed with his favourite network). Will Rogan have the same effect? - not so certain.

If anyone can be persuaded from Infowars, that'd be awesome.
Mind you, I used to like the show before I realized it wasn't parody (not even Stealth Parody).
