Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

"The ICE raids were very successful — people came into our country illegally, illegally. Many, many were taken out on Sunday, you just didn't know about it."
How the US ended up electing a skaven will always be a huge question for me, yes-yes.
By the way, does anyone know if there was any reason... well, incentive for Trump to go on that racist rant ? Or was he just drunk-tweeting late at night again ?
Kellyanne Conway defies subpoena, skips Oversight hearing
Elijah Cummings threatened to hold Conway in contempt if she doesn't testify before July 25.

Drinking might make him mellow out somewhat, so I'm not surprised he doesn't drink.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."AFAIK the only medicine we know that Trump reliably takes is finasteride or some other antiandrogenic, which is fairly innocuous (and besides, Trump's behaviours don't really sound like the sideeffects from an antiandrogenic drug) in the grand scheme of things.
I also think that people tend to call people "crazy" when they are actually "evil" and there is no evidence that they aren't in control, and some of the dementia/drug speculation IMO has the exact same problems.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe only diagnosis for Trump that is beyond reasonable doubt is narcissistic personality disorder. Anything else is pure speculation and is really not appropriate.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Granted, the Dementia thing is just speculation on my part, just based on my observations of his behavior.
Honestly though, I wouldn’t be too surprised if it turned out he did. It’s not uncommon among older Adults, so it’s not too far fetched to speculate I think, and a lot of his behavior would definitely fit.

It turns out the ICE raids did happen, and were likely done on Saturday and Monday with Sunday as a distraction.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Reasons why I strongly suspect Trump's undisclosed, chronic drug use: 1) he was known to do Charlie in the '80s and '90s, and that's not easy to kick even if you're neurotypical (in and out of the tabloids, everybody knows, don't quote me, yada-yada fishpaste); 2) narcissistic personality disorder comes with a high risk of long term substance abuse; 3) avoiding alcohol isn't demonstrative of avoiding other hedonistic highs; 4) it's neither addiction, unhealthy nor illegal if you've paid a real doctor to prescribe what you don't really need, right?; 5) a long history of erratic behaviour.
Yeah.

X5, meanwhile, a few have outright endorsed what Trump said, while others pretend to not like the racism, while repeating most of the sentiment.
