Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Anyone caught up on the latest Pelosi-Justice Dems feud?
This is why I stopped caring whenever tropers accused others of being sexist or racist for supporting Sanders and Warren way back when. The warring democratic factions will always resort to it when they're losing.
Ohh nooo, someone attacked the totally harmless and justifiable concentration cam- I mean “detention facilities”. This is awfuuuuul.
It would be a shame if this were to happen again and again until eventually the government was forced to shut down the camps. Truly a terrible sequence of events. One that I do not want at all.

"Trump, Pelosi should listen and learn"
Oh yeah, I really like how that Op-ed writer puts Trump and Pelosi in the same category. /sarc
This is why I generally don't link to op-eds.
...Are you seriously okay with people engaging in an armed uprising?
This is going well and beyond protest. And let's not forget that the guy's main motivation wasn't really about those people in the camps. It was about him and his issues that drove him to want to go down in a hail of bullets.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWell, I know there's that joke of people mobilizing to rush Area 51. Sure would be a shame if large groups of people did the same thing to destroy the concentration camps...
I want to make one thing perfectly clear: I absolutely want people to mobilize and destroy the concentration camps. I am Jewish, and seeing concentration camps being set up here makes me appalled and disgusted. They are evil and horrible and they absolutely should be destroyed, with all the people inside saved and liberated.
Yes, it's massive Hypocrisy to imagine a nonviolent liberation of people from prisons in a spontaneously uprising of outrage.
Seriously.
I'm a little sickened 500K will RSVP attacking Area 51 for aliens versus a liberation of their fellow humans.
And yes, because its my imagination, no one would die.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. In theory, you could liberate the concentration camps with a massive support network and planning, but in practice... you are gonna have to deal with the fact that you are vastly outgunned by people who are all but eager to use deadly force against any kind of opposition. Any such liberation, therefore, would have to get violent sooner or later.
i'm tired, my friendYeah.
I should also note that I'm a pacifist but I don't begrudge other people for using violence in self-defense. I just believe that it is my choice to use non-violent methods up to and including my own death before permanently harming someone.
It's always been a struggle with both my faith and anarchist revolutionary leanings.
No, you're talking about that. We've moved on that. Poor bastard got himself killed and accomplished nothing.
Also, the camp is a continuing place of horror and atrocity.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. In all likelihood, any group that storms the camps will be killed and will die for nothing.
However, I don't see any reason why you should condemn people for a hypothetical charging into the place and liberating everyone without hurting anyone.
It's absolutely moral that they be freed because they're not guilty of anything and should be. Its against the law but not morality.
It's an impossible goal not an evil one.

Oh no, the violent left attacked a concentration camp.
I am so shocked and horrified.
At the existence of concentration camps in my country.
