Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Sanders just dropped to 3rd place (behind Harris) in Real Clear Politics’ polling averages, with Warren only 0.2% away from knocking him into 4th place.
They’re working of 5 recent polls and Sanders is behind both Warren and Harris in 3 of them, so he could very easily drop to 4th.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranThe issue isn't the flavor. It's the price. And at least the Snickers lacks the pretension of pretending to be health food.
And for the record, I hate Snickers bars. I don't indulge in chocolate very often, so I always make a point of getting the quality stuff the few times I do indulge. As you might have noticed by my Relationship Status, I take chocolate very seriously.
Anyway, the point is that Yang's taste in comfort food is terrible. Along with a lot of his views, frankly. It's probably for the best that he's not likely to be the candidate.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI feel belatedly satisfied after saying that Sanders didn't do well in the debates only for every media outlet to say he did fine.
I do wonder how Warren and Harris will ride the this momentum to keep gaining ground. Has there been any difference in their campaigning or media attention since the debates?
I'm willing to pay a bit of a premium for something tastier. Anyway, while it's true that they have a lot of sugar, there are a few other advantages, like having high fiber and protein contents, and lack of fiber *is* one of the biggest problems with American diets. You certainly shouldn't be eating them all the time, but it is still a healthier option than a candy bar.
In conclusion, this is why I will be voting for Andrew Yang.
Even anime agrees with this statement and plugs Snickers
More seriously, the further Sanders falls the less legitimately he or others can use the "rigged" claim, hopefully.
Biden may still lead but he got a serious leak midships now and I doubt he's insightful enough to correct that.
If he's seriously unlucky then next Debate he's up with Harris or Warren again (not sure if both would be worse or if the appearance of ganging up would be more harmful)
"You can reply to this Message!"Speaking of Warren, she has a new plan out today for helping women of color in the workplace.
Below is a quick overview from her twitter.
The gender pay gap hits women of color particularly hard. When future employers use salary history to make new offers, they trap women of color in lower wages. Black and Brown women are disproportionately mistreated at work. Their path to higher-level management jobs is rockier.
The government has helped perpetuate the systemic discrimination that has denied women of color equal opportunities, and it’s time to right those wrongs. I've got a plan to boost their wages, open up career advancement, and fight systemic discrimination.
First, I will have new requirements for federal contractors: companies with bad track records on equal pay and management diversity won’t get new contracts. No contractor will be permitted to use forced arbitration and non-compete clauses for low- and medium-wage workers.
I will also make sure the senior ranks of the federal government look like America. My administration will ensure that federal agencies recruit women of color and develop leadership paths for them. The government should do better if it demands more from the private sector.
Finally, I will strengthen enforcement against systemic discrimination. I will direct federal agencies to target enforcement towards industries where we know women of color face higher rates of discrimination.
This is just the first step—but it’s a necessary one. It’s time to build an America that recognizes the role that women of color play in their families and in the economy, that fairly values their work, and that delivers equal opportunity for everyone.
