Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Fuck yes I love Warren's focus on well-researched policies as opposed to "feel-good" policies that might not do jack shit to resolve the issue.
She'll likely get overshadowed by others that are supporting more immediate action because of that insistence on research, though.
And wow, they didn't even get through the entire line before moving to the next question and going with one of the more popular candidates - I can't even fathom how frustrating that has to feel for the candidates that are getting breezed by. I'm definitely sympathizing with Delaney with that outburst there.
And tomorrow night is going to be even worse given how verbose both Biden and Bernie tend to be.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"
Definitely - kind of wish I'd had a stopwatch going for Warren, since I'm sure she went over 30 seconds. That said, Delaney just went down a little for me because of both the blind "I want bipartisanship" aspect and his Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids! attitude.
And ohhh wow Inslee's grin is going to become a meme. Seriously, I know he was wanting to show eagerness, but damn that was a bit too sustained.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Delaney is an idiot. Bipartisanship with Mitch Mc Connell is like trying to make friends with flesh eating bacteria.

And not the cute Reading Flesh Eating Bacteria from Welcome to Night Vale's Summer Reading Program
Loved the viewer question, and while O'Rourke started off strong, he veered pretty hard into Trump criticism.
Kind of liked Deblasio's point about Congressional approval, but poor timing given how hard it is to get any action on situations that are absolutely crises, but you don't have a vested interest in.
I'm thinking that this is the field that Gabbard will shine in, as she is (to my knowledge) the only active-duty military member on the stage.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Inslee had a good zinger there. Tad predictable, but a Cheap Pop is still a pop.
And with the Tech Difficulties, The Daily Show already did a mashup of that moment with The Naked Gun and Drebin peeing in the toilet while the audio plays
on the main stage.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"So, I didn't even notice that Tim Ryan tried to say that the Taliban did 9/11.
...Yeah, he should probably just drop out now.
Oh God! Natural light!![]()
Eh, he was kind of conflating the two, and given that the Taliban was giving shelter to Al-Qaeda, it's not the worst conflation I've ever seen.
In terms of closing arguments, I think Booker had the strongest, with Warren up there with him. Depends on which you prioritize, I think.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Loved the debate.
Warren managed to make a coherent argument and hold the floor without mentioning Trump once. Tonight was hers.
Standouts for content were her, Jay Inslee, Cory Booker, and Bill de Blasio.
John Delaney is hopeless and hopelessly outmatched. His withdrawal really ought be imminent.
In any case, I really enjoyed Part I, and I left it feeling it surprisingly positive. Absolutely no clown car vibes.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."Booker and Castro did very well. Warren, I honestly feel should have spoken more, but she started strong, and she is already doing well (on NBC, they're speculating she didn't want to draw much fire, which makes sense). Hopefully in the future she goes in with more passion.
O'Rourke did rather poorly, though. And Tim Ryan almost definitely took last place.
Oh God! Natural light!

There was an attack ad against Joe Biden from the Trump campaign complaining about the "radical left".
i'm tired, my friend
