Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Jesus, did not expect to see Klobuchar murder Inslee like that.
Edit: I think Castro was referring to Trans men, not "Transgender females" (which is misgendering), but he is bringing up an extremely important point!

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -Fighteer
Yeah, that was a pretty good zinger.
And I have to reiterate my sympathy for those that are kind of getting overrun by the more high-profile candidates - I understand the rationale behind it by the moderators, but this is also the biggest platform a lot of these candidates will get.
Castro's making his play with Section 1325 of the Immigration laws, calling for everyone on the stage to support repealing that portion. Kind of making him rise in my personal estimation, I'll admit.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Oh, and 538 has got a running blog going about the debates
- they pointed out that Warren was far and away the most verbose candidate so far, with 883 words spoken during the first half-hour, with ~500 from Booker, Klobuchar, and Delaney, with the most quiet being Tim Ryan at a paltry 208.
Had anyone asked about Universal Basic Income? Immigration Policy? Regulating Big Tech? regulating shady video game industry practices?
We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties - hopefully NBC will extend the debate a bit to compensate. They actually cut to the next commercial because it got so bad!

They talked Immigration and corporate mergers during the first half-hour.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"

On insurance admin costs alone there’s tremendous savings. Hospital does all paperwork/payments through one insurer rather than dozens? That’s huge.
