Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Knew there was a reason why I called him "Bad Luck Bootsy". That, plus Board James.
ASAB: All Sponsors Are Bad.The short version is that they've believed he's neglected his duties as Mayor to chase the Presidency while acting like a reformer when the police department's brutality has festered under his reign. He also tried to play the incident down and then use it for his campaign, which infuriated constituents.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Because the news has been even more awful than usual, here’s a link to a Warren tweet
with a great photo of a Very Good Boy (her golden retriever, Bailey).
That is so sweet.
Hopefully sometime next year Bailey will be set to reside in the West Wing
That will be interesting, regardless if they show horror or display rationalizations it should be illuminating.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."I've been seeing some truly vile, racist shit on Twitter recently. I know, I know, water is wet, but it's escalating in a way I've never seen before. People actively cheering the refugee children being abused and neglected in Trump's concentration camps is old hat by now, but there's also a lot of hate toward Native Americans? I saw like five extreme-right asshats saying "Durr hurr, ~ * Europeans * ~ are just better at conquering, we owe the Natives nothing" today. Reported a couple. Shit-talked one of them pretty hard, but then I worried about being banned/suspended and deleted the tweets. Now I feel like a coward.
Just because it's nothing new doesn't mean it's not incredibly disheartening. I don't even know if all our efforts to fight back have accomplished anything. There was a post in one of the usual extreme-right haunts saying that the pro-trans Gillette ad meant the right was losing and couldn't recover, so I take some solace in knowing those villains are feeling pretty shitty too, but you'd think we'd have had a big moment of catharsis by now.
Don't pin your satisfaction on any of these people seeing justice or karma catching up to them, you'll be disappointed.
Impeachment is literally 100% impossible no matter what we do and so is taking Trump to court.
You should focus more on how to help people and preventing these things in the future than hoping Trump and his people are punished because bluntly they're probably going to walk away from all this.
Oh really when?

I admit to being a bit confused as to why black voters are angry at Pete specifically (besides firing the old police sergeant). Is it inaction? Just plain not doing anything about racialized police violence? I could understand if so.
i'm tired, my friend
