Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I would've probably stopped watching the show after so many repeated failures by the house Democrats in regards to the subpoenas. Trump's election would've been fine as a shocker, but the inability of the heroes to give anyone justice would be souring on me.
Life is unfair...Personally, the Designated Heroes mixed in with the actual good guys are the most painful part. note
Fine, but I still hate the DINOs as much as I hate any republicans.

My musician pageWe absolutely shouldn't be looking at it like a TV show or movie. The audience has no control over the events in such a case.
Politics are a Twitch Plays. The audience, as a whole, is playing the game together. We gotta get our shit together and mash B in November or we wind up trying to defeat the Dragonite of Republican politics by worshipping the Helix Fossil.
It might be funny in the moment but then Trump kicks our ass and we lose. Coordination is key.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
Well, with the key difference that while in Twitch Plays, too many of the same input just cancels itself out (or more accurately, results in 0 net movement toward the goal), while that’s not going to happen in the current environment.
The problems are many, though, as well as interwoven and self-sustaining. The closest-to-feasible solution would be just to make sure that as many people as possible who would never vote republican, do vote, vote democrat, and vote downballot. The question is, how do we make sure of that?
Look at me, talking like there’s actually anything I can do again.

My musician pageWell, at least it isn't Only the Author Can Save Them Now level of badness. I sincerely think that the US have a much better chance to get it together and fix stuff than other countries in crisis if it's any consolation to you guys.
I think people here are just trying to find some humor to cheer themselves up a bit in the face of depressing reality. Don't be too hard on them.
In morning Supremem Court decisions:
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Justice Department preparing to start anti-trust investigation into Google.
It's a general Conservative thing, they hate search engines for "liberal bias" and allegedly deprioritizing Conservative sources.
It's nonsense derived from ignorance of how modern technology functions and a dislike of companies that seem leftist from their warped far-right perspective.
"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangThe difference is that fundamentally the purpose of Doctors is to help people, so their oath is just to remind them of that.
A for-profit entity promising to do no harm is just a sick joke, their purpose if permitted to go to its logical conclusion will inevitably result in large amounts of harm.

Yeah true. I've also seen that phrase
- expanded into the reasoning of "if you are unsure what to do, consult someone, not knowing everything is not the end of the world even for a doctor - and this is especially true if you are off duty but happen upon an accident/are getting first aid training."
- used as a reasoning behind opposing euthanasia (and as follows as the reason why medical people are forbidden from having anything to do with executions in the US if I remember right)
You are right about the corporations though.

>Those TV series about members of the US government f*cking-up just keep losing to reality.
Fiction is constrained by what people think is possible, reality isn't.
