Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Put it this way,it will probably be under-constriction until a new President arrives, from there they have to decide what to do with it,people have probably been promised money to have it finished, contracts drawn up ecta, suddenly halting development might lead to a load of law suits from the people who were promised wages for building the wall and now that money won't arrive because its cancelled, obviously compensation is possible but it's complicated situation
Easiest solution is to finish the wall but dont' treat it like a diversionary wall like Trump wants

have a listen and have a link to my discord serverPayment for a project like this isn’t withheld until completion or anything but rather paid continuously. The government could simply stop paying for the construction. Or they could just tell the company to stop and return any unused funds, which happens every now and then with government contracts. The company could sue if they wanted, but the government changing its mind is always a possibility in contracts like these so I doubt they’d win.
There would be no reason whatsoever to finish the wall, basically.

They should have sent a poet. The tariffs on Chinese products aren't a good idea for the new brands planning to launch in the U.S. as this article shows
.
GAC have some vehicles the U.S. would probably buy, like the GAC Trumpchi GS8
◊ SUV or GAC Trumpchi GS7 SUV
◊.
They'd probably drop the Trumpchi name for the U.S. market though.
Tariffs could stop them bringing in such cars, or even, given Ford's new focus on SU Vs, the Chinese-built Ford Territory
◊ which would sell well in the U.S.

X3 Any wall is diversionary by its nature, it would be better to pay them the money they get but have them build nothing, or pay them to tear down what has already been built instead of build more.
Anything Trump actually builds will stand as a symbol of hatred and bigotry, it would basically be anti-statue of Liberty, telling foreigners to go away and that they’re not welcome.
Simply for the symbolism it should be ripped down, possibly used for target practise during a joint exercise by the US and Mexican militaries, that way you’d save on the costs of its deconstruction.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranA Freedom Caucus member from Texas. (Chip Roy apparently.) Hands up if you saw that one coming.
The reason why is because since a lot of lawmakers are out of town due to the Memorial Day recess, legislation can be passed despite those many absences if the legislators present vote unanimously in favor of it. Roy supposedly objects to the “swampiness” of this, (despite it being a pretty common procedure) hence why it’s being held up.
I’m definitely inclined to think that this is yet another Tea Party/Trump “the cruelty is the point” type of moments. I’m making a mental note to donate some money to whoever runs against Roy in 2020.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |The Trump administration is going to start removing protections for trans people when it comes to healthcare. So if a trans person is dying, they can just up and refuse to save our lives.
Now watch as just about everyone looks the other way and ignores this, like they always do when Trump targets us.
Whee, the Supreme Court just said that Michigan and Ohio don't need to redraw their Congressional maps immediately
. They'll be hearing the case in late June, but boy is that intervention not a promising outlook.
Again, the point wasn't that you or anyone else doesn't have to worry about anything, just that your retort of "no one will care/do anything" was inaccurate. Because it was.
It seems like people have in general been good on jumping on the things Trump's administration has been trying to do, even if a lot of it still happens because we unfortunately have much power at the moment.

Yeah there’s a difference between “people try and stop it but are overpowered because the Republicans have control over most of the country and most of government” and “everyone looks the other way and ignores this“.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranA Federal judge has blocked some of Trump's Emergency Declaration to build his wall.
Specifically, the injunction blocks Trump from stealing funds that were meant for drug busting to build his wall.
According to the judge: "The position that when Congress declines the Executive's request to appropriate funds, the Executive nonetheless may simply find a way to spend those funds 'without Congress' does not square with fundamental separation of powers principles dating back to the earliest days of our Republic,"

I’m just ready to be done with Trump, especially since the presidential election was a Sadistic Choice to many Americans, including myself, a person who would prefer to defend the rights of people as a whole.
This is going to be amplified even more in the coming year since I usually lean considerably libertarian. There is a need for government, but when it infringes or fails to uphold the rights of its citizens, that government has got to go. And personally, that line was crossed years ago when it started with failing to consider a vetting process to avoid deportation over just being here, and not because it is also a waste of resources.
Wait a second: How on earth did I even get here?

How exactly?
We can just... stop it.
Stop funding the people building it and maybe sell as scrap the bits they already created.
