Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Most of the negativity I've seen towards Warren from the left are from the kind of far-leftists who kneejerk hate her because she still identifies as a capitalist, even though her platform is among the closest to bringing about the kinds of policies they want out of any of the remotely viable candidates. Then again they see all social democrat types as the enemy. Nobody aside from Sanders would ever qualify in their eyes.

That's not a completely unreasonable critique from that perspective, though. If you're on the radical left and you want an improvement in the terms of the class struggle at present you're probably better off voting for someone who doesn't publicly stand in solidarity with the system but just thinks it needs some tweaking if there are more radical options. This is a primary, even in standard liberal electoral terms this is when people are meant to be being picky.
There's a not inconsiderable ideological difference between social democracy and democratic socialist politics even if the short to medium term policies look very similar.

The communist party of the United States was notably against the New Deal. They believed that the attempts to reform capitalism would result in the system remaining intact far longer than if the Great Depression dragged on and on to cause a worker's revolution. Notably, this combined with the fact they threw racial equality under the bus and repeatedly shifted positions on intervening in Europe against the Nazis based on what Moscow indicated is what actually caused the collapse of the US communist movement BEFORE the Red Scare.
Mind you, it was always threatened because the United States is probably the most religious Western nation.

?
It pretty much shows American democracy has always been more fragile than people think.
Mind you, the government denies it happened now despite having hearings and testimony on it.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Urbandictionary has a name for the concentration camps: Trumpcamps.
Trump is a narcissist, so maybe making sure his name is on this thing will help, like with Hoover. Or maybe it won't but it can't hurt.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.GOP Rep: 'President Trump Has Engaged in Impeachable Conduct'
I guess it shouldn't be that surprise that at least one of them is saying that, but it still kind of is.
I'm surprised, but I don't know if his stating such will accomplish anything unless other Republicans diverting from the Trump Hive Mind feel encouraged to express their misgivings as well.
Do not obey in advance.Pelosi has started rolling back her statements about impeachment.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Apparently this guy is a frequent Trump critic, so I doubt his colleagues will give him much attention.
He mentions that he doesn’t think most of Congress has read the report. I feel this is a good time to mention that Warren read aloud a big chunk of it in the Senate and House Democrats had a marathon live reading a few days ago as well. If Republicans haven’t read the report yet, then they have really gone out of their way not to.
Reading about him on his Wikipedia page
he's a Libertarian Republican who has never missed a vote and is apparently a stickler for the rules.
Sounds like he's a true believer who is one of the few Tea Partiers to actually believe the Freedom(TM) Ideology they espouse, instead of it just being a useful cover for right-wing authoritarianism and White Supremacy.
I highly doubt his stance means anything in the broad scheme of things. Still, it's good he's getting recognition for his decision to stand by his principals.

"Einstein would turn over in his grave. Not only does God play dice, the dice are loaded." -Chairman Sheng-Ji YangI didn't see anything in there that constituted a rolling back of her position.
That's the House's game plan to make Trump and his cronies start behaving appropriately: that faerie wishes and unicorn farts will suddenly change the direction of the wind.

A Utah insurer has a new solution to help cut costs for prescription drugs. PEHP Health and Benefits provides insurance to 170,000 of Utah’s public employees. The company now plans to send willing patients across the border into Mexico to get cheaper medication. “We’re trying to be part of the solution in health care,” said Chet Loftis, Managing Director of PEHP.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Yes, which is a good reason to remove it.
Think how many US businesses are losing money or poor people staying alive because of this.
In Mexico, it can be the difference between 70 dollars a pill and 5.
Now multiply that by 30 for one prescription.
It might well be far far cheaper.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.@Charles: For the same link you shared, the Bussiness Plot is just a Conspiracy Theory. Once with a hilarious lack of credibility, with hilarious stuff as the one marine that "revealed it" being a leftist.
Because the Fascist Corporates decided to Trust into someone who had being very critical of them.
Watch me destroying my countryWikipedia's take is a lot more nuanced
.

It's not a Broken Clock, Trump doesn't get points for opposing the awfulness that his appointed cabinet members support.
