Kentucky cyclist repeatedly arrested and jailed – for commuting on the road
Edited by M84 on May 15th 2019 at 1:21:18 AM
Disgusted, but not surprised
From the context of that article, it's clear that she's cycling on the highway because that's her only viable way to get to work and she needs to work to support her children, which is why the judge affirmed she was allowed to do that.
It's also evident that the 'unsafe situation' she was taken in for was not caused by her so much as by drivers choosing to violate traffic laws/regulations in order to pass her.
Angry gets shit done.![]()
After reading that she seems even less sympathetic. She’s not riding on the shoulder, she’s riding in an actual traffic lane of the highway. She refuses to ride in the shoulder since she says the dirt and rumble strips are more dangerous than riding in traffic. I would also assume that the additional charges aren’t specifically related to her bicycling but rather failure to comply after officers told her to knock it off.
Under Tennessee Code, it’s up to local governments to decide whether any given roadway is closed to bicycle traffic, and US 27 appears to be a no go for bicycles through most areas.

They should have sent a poet.
Because it puts you in greater risk of falling. I rather would have a biker on the interstate then one falling into my lane. I once had to avoid a drunk man falling into my lane, and the only reason I didn't run him over was because the way he was moving I saw it coming from afar. With a biker a fall like this would be way more unpredictable.
At the end of the day the lack of proper infrastructure is the problem, though.
Bicycles do not belong on the lanes of major roads. I sympathize with her situation but she is creating a safety hazard, full stop.

If you fall going over a bump you get some bruises or a scraped knee. If you get into an accident with a vehicle moving 65mph on a 6 lane highway you’ll be dead. That argument doesn’t hold water.
Not to mention that the slowing of traffic creates an accident hazard all the way down the highway, not just around the bicycle, even if all the drivers around her are behaving themselves.
It’s a shitty situation, but she’s creating an incredibly hazardous condition and recklessly continuing the behavior even after being warned off of it.
Edited by archonspeaks on May 14th 2019 at 11:15:30 AM
They should have sent a poet.People going 30 on the interstate are enough of a hazard to themselves and other drivers, and she's not going 30. What does she do when she gets to an on-ramp? People check their mirrors for headlights and cars, not a woman on a tiny bicycle.
It's a crappy situation, yes, but she needs to figure something else out. Last post on the topic from me since I think Septimus has probably been side-eyeing the off-topic hammer for a while now.
It's been fun.#LindseyGrahamResign trends on Twitter

Graham on Monday said Trump Jr. should refuse to answer questions from the Senate Intelligence Committee, which subpoenaed Trump Jr. to testify about his communication with Russian officials.
“You just show up and plead the Fifth and it’s over with,” Graham told reporters, referring to the amendment that protects citizens from self-incrimination, according to The Washington Post.
The official Twitter account for Democratic Coalition, an anti-Trump super PAC that targets Republican officials and candidates, called for Graham to resign following the comments.
“Retweet if you agree. #LindseyGrahamResign,” the group posted.
The group wrote that Graham "has abdicated his responsibilities as a U.S. Senator and has clearly abandoned his oath to uphold the Constitution and defend the rule of law."
The Hill has reached out to Graham’s office for comment.
The hashtag quickly gained momentum online, with more than 65,000 people using it on Twitter.
Yes, the only way we're going to benefit society is if all these "Lock Em up" People see that the rule of law still holds and they get arrested for threatening an ex-President and his wife. Trump's mobs need jailtime.

"The group wrote that Graham "has abdicated his responsibilities as a U.S. Senator and has clearly abandoned his oath to uphold the Constitution and defend the rule of law."
Eh, not really. He was reminding someone of a Constitutional right, after all - it's partisan hackery at its finest, but it can't exactly be called an abdication of his responsibilities.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. The NRA's situation is hilarious to me but infuriates me as well.
- I'm laughing my ass off at the fact that Oliver North has been blackmailing, embezzling, and cheating the organization. OF COURSE HE HAS. What did you expect when you hired a criminal and fucking Dirty Cop spy?
- The NRA being tax exempt and having a for-profit network is bullshit beyond all reason.
- I do love how the NRA shot itself in the foot by electing Trump. The fact they thought Obama was going to take their guns is angering, though.
From the Nadler thing, this entire article is full of, "The Democrats don't actually want to arrest anyone." Which is disgusting but not surprising.
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/12/jerry-nadler-trump-subpeona-1317458
On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for not turning over an unredacted copy of special counsel Robert Mueller's report. No House floor vote has been scheduled yet, but Democrats know the move is more symbolic than substantive. A civil contempt resolution is likely to be approved in the coming weeks, meaning the House could sue Barr and the Justice Department. But that isn't enough for many Democrats. They want to go much further.
Some lawmakers tell POLITICO that the growing push for a more aggressive posture is being driven by the committee's younger members, many of whom are new to the skirmishes and polarizing fights that have long divided the Judiciary panel.
The Judiciary Committee has long been one of the most partisan in Congress because leadership tends to steer vulnerable — and typically more moderate — members away from the committee. That leaves the panel stacked with members less willing to compromise or shy away from a battle with a president of either party.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. With the bike situation, I'd argue that it's possible neither the lady, the cops, or the judge are at fault here. The actual problem is the lack of a bike lane. I'm not sure if the judge can order a bike lane constructed, but that's how you fix this problem.
Leviticus 19:34That Axios article has Schiff thinking that Trump's defiance of Congress is making the case for impeachment stronger, but also points out that an impeachment would divide the country even further. And while Trump might think that benefits him, it won't benefit the country.
He also points out that the House Democrats have always intended to wait for the Mueller Report in full before deciding whether or not to push for impeachment. It'd be kind of awkward if even the full report ultimately didn't have enough grounds for impeachment, to put it lightly.

Disgusted, but not surprised
The irony being that, by fighting the release of the full report, Trump just makes himself look worse and worse in the eyes of the law. And to think, it's only because of others around him being smarter (and unwilling to tender resignations on the spot) that Trump didn't find himself in the exact same boat as Nixon did
.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"The redacted report already has grounds for impeachment. "But we need the full report" is just more legislative cowardice.
Trump has House Dems too intimidated to actually do their jobs and serve as a check and balance. The Blue Wave came in on November 2018 on the expectation that Democrats will stand up to Trump and actually push back against him. And right now, they are failing that expectation.
"It'll divide the country further." I'd rather have a divided nation than one united in chains. There is no value in letting the authoritarian win. House Democrats are giving up and putting out only token resistance to Trump's agenda for fear of actually having to fight. That is completely unacceptable.
No more delaying actions. No more bullshit excuses. It's long past time for the House to put its votes where its mouth is and do something. Otherwise, we might as well buckle in for another four years of Trump, 'cause two years of belligerent appeasement isn't going to inspire anyone in 2020.

The Blue Wave came mostly out of healthcare and gun safety desires, the people clamoring for impeachment were always going to vote for the democrats. The moderate suburbanites were the ones who swung and allowed it to happen.
