There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Country House's team complained to the stewards that Maximum Security interfered with War of Will, causing a domino effect that impeded Country House's ability to win (he crossed the finish line second). I think Long Range Toddy's team also complained.
From what I saw when watching the race, War of Will was tucked in on the rail, just behind Maximum Security, but had to be checked several times to avoid clipping heels. He was pulled off the rail to go around Maximum Security's right, and had Long Range Toddy, Bodexpress and Country House on his own right. Maximum Security suddenly veered right, forcing War of Will to be pulled up, which sent him into Long Range Toddy, who bumped Bodexpress, who then bumped Country House. Maximum Security then veered sharply left to crash into Code of Honour, who was coming through on the rails.
The steward decision appears to have been that these horses were interfered with. The placement of Country House, Long Range Toddy, Bodexpress and Code of Honour probably wouldn't have changed because Country House's impediment was minor, while the other three were spent tanks and faded quickly. However, War of Will still had gas to burn and was thus denied the potential for a better finish. He probably wouldn't have won, but he might have placed third or fourth.

If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.Carrier strike group being sent to threaten Iran.

This is interesting.
“This growing monopolization of agriculture is unfair to food producers. It is unfair to consumers. It is unfair to the environment,” the Democratic presidential candidate said from behind a podium at the Mitchell County fairgrounds, looking out onto about 100 Iowans seated in chairs or the set of risers under the pavilion. “Together, we are going to change that system.”
The Vermont senator’s package of proposals, which he touted as a "radical policy change," signals the Democratic presidential candidate’s quest to win over the largely agricultural-focused voters who heavily favored President Trump’s candidacy in 2016.
The series of proposals lays out an aggressive effort to break up large agriculture corporations through “Roosevelt-style trust-busting laws.” Sanders proposed placing a moratorium on future mergers between large agribusinesses.
In perhaps his most significant proposal, Sanders laid out his desire to transition the U.S. commodity industry toward supply management programs in which the federal government would work with farmers to determine the amount of product needed from an operation to meet the demands of the marketplace while guaranteeing a price for the product that would ensure those farmers earn a “living wage.”
On trade, Sanders provided few details about his vision. He did not lay out his thoughts on President Trump’s continued use of tariffs, with is plan saying he plans to “develop fair trade partnerships that do not drive down the prices paid to food producers and that, instead, protect farmers here and abroad.”
His plan also proposes: Aiding beginning farmers with investments in land acquisition and equipment, reforming agricultural subsidies to move more financial support away from larger farming operations, opening up money resources for farmers to transition to more sustainable farming practices, ensuring a farmer has the right to repair his or her own machinery, reforming patent laws to “protect farmers from predatory patent lawsuits from companies like Monsanto” over seed patents and the strengthening of regulations on organic products.
Not surprised. Sanders' always been pretty weak when it comes to foreign policy and trade.
Disgusted, but not surprised

538 predicted that this would happen when Biden announced he was running. Warren is the candidate whose base has the least in common with Biden's base. It stands to reason that she'd be the least hurt by it and even gain from it.
Though Buttigieg didn't take much of a hit either and is still in a decent position given his relative dark horse status.

personally at this point im much more worried about domestic than foreign policy, as long as we stop bombing children at least.

That is basically what Sanders needs to address now. Everyone knows the picture when it comes to his domestic policy ideas, now he needs to talk about Russia, Venezuela and Iran. I'm sure it will come up in the debates regardless.
Authoritarian alert: Jerry Falwell Jr. recently said that Trump should get two extra years as president as reparations for what he considered a waste of two years of investigations.
Predictably, certain people are using the "just kidding" defense, saying it was a joke on the reparations talk recently. But here's the thing: Trump and his base aren't going to take it as a joke, despite claims to the contrary. They'll be like, "That's a good idea." Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if Trump tried to get his lawyers to find some stupid loophole that grants him just that.
Related: In a NYT interview, Nancy Pelosi doesn't think that Trump will accept the 2020 election results if they're close. I share that concern.

I think we here are more concerned Trump won't accept the results period if they're not in his favor.
Also no word on Barr yet on https://currentstatus.io
(where I tend to pick up news) but it's also only been half an hour.

I have full confidence that Trump won't accept the election results if they're not in his favor.
Two years ago, I didn't think it mattered overmuch. The Secret Service would still do their duty and toss him on his ass out of the White House if he refused to go.
Now that we have members of the Executive actually breaking the law on his command, I'm less sure about that.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.... I mean, he's still guilty of obstruction of justice. Just not moreso.

> He clearly hasn't learned the lesson, probably only prison time would stop him, if these actions even are illegal.
The only way he'll stop is if something damaging came about him instead, like that might shut him for awhile
