Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

I don't usually post stuff about specific congresspeople, but I thought this was abominable and morally repugnant enough: Mo Brooks from Alabama compares Democrats and "fake news" allies to Hitler, with Trump as the persecution victim.
Only in the American South.
Mmm.
I'm not sure just saying the words "big lie" constitutes quoting Hitler.
I mean, he's totally Fake-News-wanking and saying the Mueller Investigation was a political stunt and shit. He's reading right off of today's Standard Right-Wing Script. But I feel like saying he quoted Hitler 'cause he said "big lie" is overselling it.

Oh, so he did. They stuck an ad at the bottom of all the talk about Big Lie and I thought the article ended there.
Never mind, then.

And from that a bunch of really disingenuous comparisons/takes on some of their policies. Ignoring of course how Hitler hated marxism and said that his idea of "socialism" was completely different from what it meant conventionally.
Yeah it is in the name but like you pointed out as well this is ignoring Hitler hated the Socialists.
Looking at the other wiki tho, if they had said "they grew out of a labor party!" now that would have been accurate (the party was actually called German Labor Party or German Workers' Party before 1920 and after that they just tacked the National Socialist at the front).

Goddamn. Turns out while Buttigieg sucks up all the oxygen, Warren has been killing it. This anecdote is... goddamn.
On to less (semi)heartwarming, and more alarming news:
Now, as the article states, the U.S. government has been blacklisting those with ties to the IRGC since at least 2007, but if it's true then this would be the first time the U.S. has designated another country's military as terrorists.
~wisewillow: Um, is "Warren has been killing it" supposed to be a criticism or a praise?

Please copy/paste the content or a brief summary for those of us that can't/won't access Twitter. You're far from the only one, and it's rather irksome to have context-free posts like that.
@Revolutionary Guard = Terrorists
Well, considering their actions during the Green Revolution about a decade ago... But that said, such a label would also need to be applied to other governmental Secret Police organizations in order to be equitable.

"Why would I inflict myself on somebody else?"Interesting, since it opens the US up to similar accusations from other countries. It's been an open secret the most governments around the world reserve the capability to carry out rather unsavory actions when they deem necessary. While I wouldn't want to draw an exact equivalence between the Revolutionary Guard and, say, the CIA, I wonder where exactly that you draw the line?
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart.

End of the day, I'd rather be sitting here going, "Wow, a dozen squad cars for one dude? Man, that was overkill. At least we got him, though."
As opposed to, "Whoops, he got away. He's a personal guest of Vladimir Putin now. We will never, ever get him. Assange won forever. Maybe should have put an extra officer on that."
