Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

There is zero question that the white guy needs to be charged with assault or whatever we can throw at him. She's lucky he didn't kill her. We don't need people like that.
I can understand why she would be angry about something like that, I would be too and I'm not always sure I'd stop with just smashing the windows on his truck. However, we do need to let the system work (or not, let's face it do we really believe that he's going to get what he deserves) before we resort to taking things into our own hands.

Hold on, where did this come from?
Freezing cold comfort.

i'm tired, my friend>Hold on, where did this come from?
"Lee was charged Tuesday with felony criminal mischief after allegedly smashing the windows of Shuffield’s truck after the incident."
It appears she came back later to destroy the windows on his truck. Destroying the windows wasn't a part of the confrontation, but something that occurred later.

Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) has prostate cancer, and will undergo treatment this month. He says his outlook is good, and it was detected early.

Notably, if his treatment works out fine (as in, he is declared cancer free within a reasonable time), he plans to run for President as well.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.![]()
It's more worse then that, He wanted a pic of her license plate, (Not utterly unreasonable) she wanted him to step back (completely reasonable) and he draws a gun and assaults her. He started the whole thing over literally nothing. Often I find fault with both parties, but in this one I think it's pretty clear where 100% of the blame goes. When I say he could have killed her, the gun is the obvious way. However, hitting someone on the head is also a really good way to kill someone. He needs to go to prison for some serious time.
Some Mueller team members say final report more damaging to Trump than Barr summary suggests: NY Times
The Times, citing government officials and others familiar with the matter, reported that members of the special counsel's team have expressed concerns that Barr's summary of their office's findings helped solidify the views of the American public prior to the investigation's conclusions being made public.
Investigators on Mueller's team reportedly prepared summaries of their probe, and some feel that Barr should have included more information from their summaries in his own outline of the report's findings. However, the Justice Department determined those summaries contained sensitive information that could not be released, according to two government officials who spoke to the Times.
The officials and others did not fully explain to the Times why the investigators believe their findings are worse for the president than Barr indicated. It also is not clear how many of the 19 lawyers, approximately 40 FBI agents and other people on Mueller’s team share this sentiment about Barr’s summary.
The Hill has reached out to the special counsel's office for comment.

For comparison with the ongoing problems coming out of Trump's White House, the Daily Show has a running series on historic Presidential Scandals from the Obama Administration and the massive outcries in conservative media over Obama's terrible transgressions against the United States.
Things like the infamous selfie stick.
It's a fascinating bit of contrast between the Presidencies. Also amazing to look back at just how alarmingly racist Fox's coverage of Obama was. One woman describes him as "doing jump shots in the Oval Office", which has nothing to do with the topic and is just a BLACK FOLKS BE PLAYIN' BASKETBALL dig.
She gets away with it by being black herself, I guess?
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Probably the worst thing that happened during the Obama administration, was the Benghazi affair, which didnt involve Obama directly. Other than that, there were a number of policy decisions that a fair number of people consider objectionable, such as the warrantless wiretapping programs, drone strikes that targeted noncombatants, and so forth. But any objective comparison between the two cant help highlighting how corrupt the Trump administration is.
I'm done trying to sound smart. "Clear" is the new smart. When can we expect them to institute Judge Dredd style Judges?
So, I don't think that's... productive.
Like, it's entirely unrelated to the subject at hand (other than "executions are involved") and if anything, runs contrary to the story that brought it up, you know?
I mean, this is a story where a man got a stay of execution because of his non-Christian beliefs... and the state's response was to chop its nose to spite its face and go "oh shit, I'd rather hurt Christians and non-Christians than help non-Christians too."
I'm not saying don't make jokes. I'm not even saying don't make that joke. But save it for the depressingly inevitable cop killing an unarmed guy rather than draw attention away from the actual article being discussed.
Re: Obama: There's a reason that he was called "No Drama Obama." While there was a lot of bad shit going on, he A: Handled it well and B: (True or not) instilled a sense that it was an inherited issue (torture in particular comes to mind on this front). As such, people desperate for a scandalous scandal jumped on everything.
Trump goes the other way and it kind of... works. He has so many scandals it's impossible to keep up, or sustain suitable outrage at them. And if individuals sustain suitable outrage, out comes another funny little (but still shockingly inappropriate) gaffe that catches the country's eye and turns it away.

Ahem, the PRISM program seems to be eluding the minds of the writers at Comedy Central. Not that I personally thought much about it, even as a European. I mean, is it shocking that the US would use their vast intelligence network to their advantage?

Just When You Thought the Trump Administration Couldn’t Get Any Lower, This Happened.
