Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

US Congress Republicans mostly have their heads in the sand.
UK Tory M Ps have their heads up their arse and scream "Deeper!" all the time...
"You can reply to this Message!"Can't forget the lasting damage he's done to our soft power. The Iran Deal in particular has been an international sign of "okay, we can make a deal, our experts can say it's working, everyone in the world can agree you're following it, but the deal only lasts until the next guy is in office."
And even if the gutting of the EPA and a lot of his removals of environmental protections can be undone, the damage done until they're undone kind of... can't.
And can't overstate the cultural damage that Protagonist mentioned, even if it's impossible to gauge, it's definitely there.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. Not to mention the THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DIRECTLY HURT BY HIS POLICIES.
I’m sorry, this is the biggest sticking point for me, for God’s sake, people aren’t disposable. People getting deported, locked in camps, kicked off Medicaid, those are thousands of lives shattered or even ended. Decades of lasting trauma inflicted on children and parents. Jesus Christ, the fact we’re even discussing this in abstract terms makes me so angry.

I mean, I'm sure there are parents and kids who are permanently separated at the border. And my mind slipped on the Medicaid one (who got kicked off?) but that's definitely a death count.
"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."And don’t forget Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, not Garland and Kennedy, will be voting on the incredibly important issue of partisan gerrymandering.
God help us.
So in short, the answer to "Trump hasn't done anything" is...actually, he's done a lot. He's hurt a lot of people. We cannot - and should not - write it off as a distraction. Ever.
I'd say more, but I think
x5 explained it much better than I ever could.
It is a mistake to believe that Trump is the only deadly threat towards Americans coming from Washington today.
It is equally a mistake to believe that Trump is not a deadly threat towards Americans coming from Washington today.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.You know, I am not so sure about Pence not being the kingmaker. This action by the Senate Republicans
to me implies that they certainly treat him as if he was behind many of Trump's actions.
This is just pathetic: White House Invents New Word to Cover for Trump: Transcript Claims He Said ‘Oringes,’ Not ‘Oranges’
And here I thought "Tim Apple" couldn't be topped. A sane person would laugh at themselves for making a simple mistake instead of defensively doubling down, "No, it's shorthand, it takes too long to say "Tim Cook of Apple", quit making fake news."

While the UK's stress test just broke it.
All those "UK: did a dumb thing - US: 'Hold my beer'" jokes always rubbed me the wrong way - the UK did a WAY dumber thing than the US.
