Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Then what is the intent behind merely voting present?
Hopefully I'll feel confident to change my avatar off this scumbag soon. Apologies to any scumbags I insulted. If that was their intent, it also seems to be kind of a 'fuck you' to Mitch as well. In any case, one guy got interviewed on the news about an hour ago (And I have already forgotten his name, sorry) said he voted present because he believed the whole thing to be a farce on the part of the Republicans. Which, considering the Republicans evidently did things like hold up pictures of Aquaman and one of those memetic pieces of President Reagan on a raptor which was holding an American flag (There's some series someone did of presidents riding cool animals and wielding weapons) and disallowed the testimony of scientists and other experts on the subjects touched on in the GND, well, the guy's not wrong.
Was it even a vote on the GND? As far as I’m aware the GND isn’t a bill, it’s a set of goals/guidelines, Turtle will have to have made it into a bill, which means they didn’t vote on the GND, they voted on Turtle’s interpretation of the GND, which is something not worth bothering to vote on.
As for 2020, remember, Clinton probably would have won if not for Comey, more than Russian interference it was Comey that threw the election to Trump.
There won’t be a Comey in 2020, and we should all be thankful for that fact.
As for third party candidates, I can respect if a person honestly feels that the third party candidate best represents their views. But seeing as the Greens are anti-intellectual Russians puppets and the Libertarians are Republican light I can’t see a reason for anyone who isn’t basically a Republican anyway to vote third party.
So I totally endorse Soban voting third party.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI mean, if, for whatever reason, you were inclined to vote blindly in primaries, how would you even go about that? Like, normally people use that phrase to mean 'only consider party affiliation', but that's obviously not an option in a primary.
Would you just vote for whoever happens to be at the top of the ballot? Or maybe you'd roll a die and vote accordingly? You have to do something weird along those lines to vote blind in primary. So, like, definitely nobody advocated for doing that, and I don't know why you'd bring it up.
But in the general, I don’t care if it’s Joe goddamn Biden (I HATE him), you vote for the Dem. I’d rather raise hell at Biden’s condescending centrist ass for 4 years than have 4 more years of Trump stacking the federal courts with LIFETIME APPOINTMENTS.
Speaking of Biden, he rips 'white man's culture,' regrets Anita Hill hearing.
Well, I guess we'll see how genuine that is in coming months, maybe?
x3 At least Biden apologized for his role in those hearings (not sure if I fully believe he's sincere in his apology though). Still would rather him not run for President, but with these comments and the apology, I think he's going to try to run as Left as he can before announcing his Candidacy.
If he is sincere, though, then I'd be much more willing to vote for Biden (I'm voting for the Dem no matter what, even if it's Gabbard).
He “apologized” by saying he wished he could have done something.
HE WAS THE COMMITTEE CHAIR.
HE’S the one who decided to only call witnesses who said Thomas was a good boss, and not the MULTIPLE OTHER WOMEN who also said Thomas harassed them when he was their boss.
Biden can take that insincere bullshit apology and shove it up his [redacted]

Dr. Insano for 2020!
