Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Now I've heard many people say that we should emulate other forums by introducing a quote-button. But these people do not understand that quote-buttons would not work with our large population spread over a much broader geographical area compared to those foreign forums. A quote-button would be inefficient and stifle innovations in forum posting and will eventually lead to rationing and death-panels for your beloved posts.

Not that this isn’t fun but should we perhaps get back on topic?
Also to make serious commentary, the choice was made many years ago not to include a quote button, I don’t believe that the admins have changed their mind on that.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranIn inconsequential but kinda fun? (I guess), news, George Conway has officially stopped giving a crap, and the twitter feud between him and Individual One is heating up.
After George tweeted out a picture of the DSM diagnostic criteria for Clinical Narcisism
(which another source I had also called) and
several
other
tweets
referring
to trump’s obviously deteriorating mental health, Brad parascale tweeted this gem.
Too which trump quoted and said:
Of course, it turns out that he actually chose to drop out of the consideration of a Do J job.
Earlier today someone was trying to smear Warren over Medicare-for-All. She recently did an interview
that covered a whole range of issues and healthcare was one of them.
Edited slightly for clarity:
"So let me start by saying I believe in Medicare for all. I’m a co-sponsor on this bill. I'm signed up for this but remember even the bill that Bernie has put on the table has a lot of layering in over time. It doesn't just happen immediately, nobody throws a light switch and says "We're there!" It's got its ways of how we get some people, how we get some more people, how we get some more people, and by the way how some people never end up in it.
So for example, veterans are are kept in a different system. It's a question about how Medicaid gets brought into it. It's a big and complex system to be able to do this. And so there are folks who think, for example one way you could layer this; How about if we say Medicare now starts at 60, and then a year from now it starts at 55, and a year from now it starts at 50, in a year from now it starts at 45? Or how about we go the other way and we say everybody 30 and under is covered by Medicare and in another year another two years everybody 35 and under is covered by Medicare.
How about if we let more of the population shift to Medicare immediately by letting employers buy directly and drop private insurance and put people into Medicare. How about if we let people individually be able to buy into Medicare instead of having private insurance. In fact, I'll tell you I have a bill that I put out last year, that Bernie is a co-sponsor on, that says if you're going to have any private insurance one of the the provisions we ought to put into law right now is private insurance has to at least cover what Medicare covers. So that's what I mean by there are a lot of different paths.
But we all know, or at least I know, where we're aiming and that is the center of this where we're trying to head to is that everyone has Medicare coverage and that everyone in this country has coverage at a price they can afford. And let me just add on that; Think about what it means that Democrats are talking about, OK? Is the way to get there - Bernie said well it's just over four years, other people say let's do it over six years, some people say let's build up from Medicaid instead of Medicare. Others say start with young people start with the older people. Lots of different ways. That's the conversation Democrats were having."
Remember Paul Ryan? He's now on the board for FOX.
And need I remind you that FOX is just the branded networks now, with Disney now owning FOX's TV, Film, and animation catalogues and studios as of just a couple of hours ago.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."I love how one of the biggest go-to responses to any criticism made of the administration is, "They're just jealous!" Nevermind that that's impossible to prove without some kind of mind-reading ability, that's third grade level accusations. It also assumes that people are only motivated by how high they can climb the ladder. Maybe, just maybe, George Conway is legitimately concerned with how the POTUS is behaving and wants to warn people before it's too late?
On an unrelated but-not-TOO-unrelated note, Russia just passed a bill that would impose harsher penalties on people who post fake news and "disrespect" the presidency. We're talking YEARS in prison and hefty fines. I say "not too unrelated" because I'm sure Trump would LOVE something similar here. And it goes without saying, "fake news" doesn't necessarily have to mean ACTUAL fake news but something the president simply doesn't like.

Police raid and confiscate all the CBD oil products in a store as well as take all the cash.
A nice example of how bullshit civil forfeiture and police drug culture has become.

YAY!
And put them in museums....
BOO!
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. All museums of United States history should cover the fact that there was a very long period of time where a lot of the US was governed by, committed treason for, and then lionized slave owners. There are no museums of United States history where that's "appropriate" to cover.

It's been fun.

My quote was a joke about the way politicans are exceedingly vague. I actually didn't tell anyone that I was going to put in a quote button. What I actually said was, basically "Meh, I'll look into it", in the most verbose way possible.
