Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Republicans are already attacking Beto.
it's a rather interesting tactic, using left-wing criticisms before the primaries to discourage Democrats from voting for him.
@Raining Metal: the Youtube comment section isn't the place where one finds thoughtful discussion, to say the least.
@Hail Muffins: Come on, for almost everyone, musical preferences are a matter of taste, not prejudice. I can perfectly understand if some older people got tired of hearing the same genre every day (this speaking as someone who wears a flashy Disco costume every Carnival).
Life is unfair...That's the inherent paradox of the Presidency. Ideally you want someone who is humble and sincere about helping the country. But the kind of people who would run for President kind of have to have an ego — it takes quite a high opinion of yourself to think "Yes I am the person who should be the leader of the most powerful country in the world!"
Disgusted, but not surprisedYeah, I really think O'Rourke is making a terrible self-centered decision by going for the presidency. And to be honest while I don't consider experience to necessarily be an end-all be-all I think his is a bit lacking, and beyond the bad decision itself that's the main reason he wouldn't be my first choice.
Granted, if he does win the primary somehow, I'll still vote for him in the general election. Like I would for pretty much any of the Democratic candidates. Though admittedly I'd feel absolutely disgusted with myself if I had to vote for Gabbard somehow in the 2020 general election. Fortunately that's almost certainly not going to be an issue.
Disgusted, but not surprisedTo elaborate, Obama was a state senator, then US senator for a combined 10 years in elected office before running for president. Before that he was a Constitutional law professor and involved in various other occupations that were closely connected to law and politics, such as civil rights and voter registration.

Given how much dislike people here have shown here, I'm surprised that interview doesn't have more dislikes than the norm.
Not that I've watched it. I'd rather not.
