Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations
and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines
before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules
when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Well, is there anything that can be done to stop blatantly obstructionists tactics like the ones Mc Connell apparently used to keep so many positions from getting filled?
>Above article on Joe Biden
I much prefer Elizabeth Warren's response
to his, which was essentially "no he's not". Seriously, Michael Pence supported fucking Conversion Therapy if I remember correctly! He is not "decent".

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerYeh I’m not a fan of pretending that those who want to torture children are in any way “decent”.
Biden wants to pretend that the other side are good people one can have a reasonable disagreement with, he can try and pretend that because as a strait, cis, white, old, man it’s not his life on the line.
Biden has the privillage of not being someone Mike Pence wants to see tortured, he needs to recognise that his privillage is not shared by everyone.

Found it in this article debunking the image Shapiro likes to present of himself
. The guy also implicitly endorsed the idea of subjecting Palestinians (or Arabs in general) to genocide.
It'd be funny how far these "rationalists" are divorced from what they claim to be, if it wasn't so disgusting.

We learn from history that we do not learn from historyOn the impeachment thing, no it’s not possible come 2020 even with a big win, the Democrats would need to sustain senate victories over almost a decade to be able to took at impeaching the people Trump has appointed, expanding voting would help enable such victories to happen, but even then it’s unlikely.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranBen Shapiro is the kind of whiny bitch who, in the same sentence, asks for his side to be treated with "civility" and demands that the other side get rid of their "political correctness". All while completely ignoring the massive hypocrisy of that stance.

x4 It's referring to actor Mark Duplass, who tweeted "Fellow Liberals: If you are interested at all in 'crossing the aisle' you should consider following @benshapiro. I don't agree with him on much but he's a genuine person who once helped me for no other reason to be nice. He doesn't bend the truth. His intentions are good".
Understandably, that got a backlash.
Ben Shapiro is the kind of guy who thinks talking really fast and using big words makes you look smarter.
His shtick relies on the gish gallop
tactic: spouting as many bullshit claims as possible to overwhelm your opponent so that they can't keep track of what to refute.

Joe Biden Gets Duplassed
...
This week, Biden spoke in Omaha, Neb., where he called Mike Pence a “decent guy.” This was, of course, a grave sin — a sin so grave that radical-leftist actress and failed New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon chided Biden publicly. Nixon tweeted, “@Joe Biden you’ve just called America’s most anti-LGBT elected leader a ‘decent guy.’ Please consider how this falls on the ears of our community.”
...
Whatever the rationale, Biden quickly complied. He tweeted, “You’re right, Cynthia. I was making a point in a foreign policy context, that under normal circumstances a Vice President wouldn’t be given a silent reaction on the world stage. But there is nothing decent about being anti-LGBTQ rights, and that includes the Vice President.”
Pence, in other words, didn’t agree with Nixon; this made Pence a non-person. And Biden had to participate in Pence’s un-personing in order to purchase an indulgence from Cynthia Nixon and her Wokescolds.
...
Here’s the truth: We have large-scale disagreements in this country. Very few of those disagreements are rooted in animus. By casting all disagreement as hate-based — and by destroying those with whom we disagree on a character level — we worsen both hate and politics. Enough with the Duplassing. Enough of the moral cowardice. It’s just fine for Joe Biden to think Mike Pence is a decent guy. And it’s pretty indecent to disagree.
